Rocketsan
My guess is that Notre Dame has some culpability in whatever has transpired to give him a free pass. This looks very bad on us...sets a precedent for the future recruits to jump off ship...
DREWGOOSE
Joe Schad @schadjoe 2m Vanderdoes can take a scholarship from UCLA this season and practice, but won't play. Retweeted by Irish Sports Daily

echo88
What a joke. We will release you from your LOI as long as you dont sign with USC. Awesome precedent to set. We are about to become the doormat of the recruiting game....

I guess it's still up in the air though? About him being released. I'm sure they are going to, but just have to run through the motions of getting things finalized. Anyway, let's hope that this doesn't set a precedent like you said.

We are about to become the doormat of the recruiting game.... He has not been released from his LOI. The only source of that is Vanderdoes, who seems to believe that he has been. He will lose a year of eligibility and not be able to play for the Bruins this year for switching. Again, he has NOT been released from his LOI. Not buying the culpability side of this....we wouldn't have needed to offer him the assistance we all have been referring to.... After hearing his take, it sounds like he just changed his mind and used family reasons as a way to guilt trip the University...

If you read the article, it sounds like we won't be releasing him from his LOI until he signs with the Bruins. Once he does, his family believes will be released. It was just a mechanism to guarantee he doesn't sign with USC... "He'll be assigned classes today and start summer sessions on June 24. That will trigger the transfer rule. A source said Notre Dame was concerned that Vanderdoes would sign with USC, a decades-long rival. The family is hopeful that once it's official that Vanderdoes is a UCLA student, he'll be released from his letter of intent." May just be conjecture, but his family has probably been given a reason to believe this is how things will shake out....
