Revolver 0
After all, the football program makes tens of millions a year for the university.
SpeedsterX 751
Absolutely not! Geesh, these players are having their hands held through every facet of class whether it's organization to daily class work. When these guys are writing papers, there is a tutor (if needed) literally standing right behind them. The only thing these tutors cannot do is help them with finals and tests. All they really need to do is put some effort forward. You could have a basket weaving class and without assistance, "some" wouldn't pass THAT! It was a dumb decision on Golson's part and he'll pay the price and be better off for it!
Archer13 0
No way! I don't think that you can really like the football team without understanding what the university as a whole is about. I know that I personally love the university and accept the fact that their standards are high not only for athletes but for all of their students. The players know this when they choose to come to school at ND so the need for an underwater basket weaving or omelet preparation major is not necessary. jbrown_9999 1,125
The have easier degrees than others and easier classes than others. Assuming that some majors are already considered to be harder than others, I am sure that players are already being counselled about the relative difficulty of each major. As to the original question of whether or not ND should develop some new majors that are even less rigorous than the "easiest" major(s) already offered, I do not see the need since there have only been a few players that have had academic issues and those all seem to have been related to cheating. At the end of the day, if almost 100% of the players are graduating then things do not seem to be broken.

Revolver 0
Then are you guys ok with pretty much being a 9-3 program then? I know everything went our way and we got some luck last year and finished 12-1 but come on, we got curb stomped by Alabama and had no business being on the field with them. We were probably a 9-3 or 10-2 team last year.

Guess that's what life is in our culture of instant gratification. Can't have what the other guy has? Rather than earn it the right way - hard work, practice, and out-thinking your opponent - just dumb everything down, let in some borderline thugs who just happen to be able to move mountains, and win. Who cares about anything else, right? GTFO of here with that noise.

I dont want to have the smartest 9-3 football team in the country. I know that many have a different opinion and want it the way it is but im a subway fan, I never went to ND. You have an honest point, but you're wrong on so many levels. And like Rocket said, we pretty much have some breeze through courses. Instead of looking at ND's academic reputation, you should look at it as an advantage over other schools. Look at the network, fraternity that goes with a degree from the university. It sets you up for the long haul. The NFL means not for long and many high caliber athletes realize this. You thinking that us not having basketweaving is going to keep us from being competitive is asinine. I'd like to go on a tirade here, but i'm mobile and my gf is getting pissed that i'm ignoring her. This year they will be the smartest 10-3 team, only because their QB messed up. Next year they will be the smartest 10 win team again. Where is this "smartest 9-3 team" coming from?
