golson5 221
If EV leaves, dl recruiting becomes priority #1. We have solid players at dl, but no young studs(nix/tuitt like) With or without we still need big time dlineman. We have 2 commits right now, if ev leaves, i say take 5 this yr, if stays
ndomer4 532
Yeah, a few injuries and we are getting really thin on the dline.

MyFightingIrish 0
Jesus, the sky is falling. The Sky is'nt falling, but with EV gone (and he is gone), Dline really is a priority for recruiting. We will be thin for the 2014 season with Tuitt and Nix both gone. Wont have Schwenke or Stockton either. That leaves Springman as a 5th year and Sheldon Day. Chase Hounshel has had repeated injuries and is out for all of 2013. Depth will def need to be addressed. Not a knee-jerk observation by any means. Marl Cologne 0
I think we'll see a starting line up of: DE-Ishaq Williams DT-Sheldon Day DT-Stephon Tuitt DE-Romeo Okwara In 2014 Best in the country.
REMND 0
Recruiting for the 3-4 on the DL is just tough. I would gladly take 5 this year since we need at least 6 guys to rotate in and out. We have them for 2013 but not 2014. Rochelle and Matusak from last year. Hayes and Trumbetti this year. We are going to need some more. This staff knows the need and I am sure they are pursuing it depending on if we lose EV. That seems to be more likely from what I am reading. hawaiiirish 62
I've gotten very use to having a strong DLINE---one could argue the MAIN reason we went 12-0 was because of the DLINE---- With that said the loss of vanderdoes is simply MAJOR LEAGUE BAD---Nix-Shwenke--gone---with Hounshell & Tuitt on the bubble one because on injury the other because he's a terrific NFL prospect--- Its NOT a good situation---if we are going to win in 2014 as things stand it will have to be by becoming an offensive juggernaut---and thats a distinct possibility in my view--- In any event---we have at least 11 schollies left to give--- 1--WR 1--DB 1--LB 1--QB 1--ATH And i'd be happy going with SIX DLINEMAN---DE--DT--Tweeners-- DL is now the absolute major thrust we should be making in recruiting for the rest of the cycle IMHO__ aloha's

I also think that Tuitt will be gone. I am guessing that Springmann will win that battle. Playing the 3-4 is so tough though we need depth for rotation in every game. We really need Jones to emerge because he brings so much size. I like what I have been reading about him. He got through freshman shock of playing against others as good as him. Hounshell would be nice but I am thinking he is too injury prone now. Knocking on wood. Then, it is all newbies. Rochelle and Matusak for the DL. Not enough numbers. Am I missing anyone? Who backs up Okwara?

We are already hurting at LB. You can't overload like that at one position no matter how dire you think the depth is. 4-5 Dline total for this class. We really need some LBs in this class, especially ILB.

echo88 74
And this is why you oversign and take transfers. Its only practical. I agree, except you have to realize that we can't oversign like Bama and LSU because they take some players who are toss ups in the classroom. It's a gamble that works for them. Because of our admissions process, we already know they can hack the curriculum...

Then you have to take more players who you know can hack it I guess. Its just getting to the point where its getting old rooting for a team that has to fight with one arm tied behind its back. Revolver 0
Especially when you look at Alabama and its evident that the university does everything to ensure that the football program has everything at its disposal to win and to winchampionships. Can anyone honestly say that the University of Notre Dame does the same? Edited May 22, 2013 by Revolver

Can anyone honestly say that the University of Notre Dame does the same? It's more than just Bama. Like I have said before, we simply cannot compete with a strong BCS adversary in the current landscape of college football. Too much has changed. The last time we were taking home titles, we weren't bound by the same moral/academic restrictions. Can we beat everyone on our sked? Maybe. But we will always have to face a goon squad sooner or later.....that's when it shows.....
