I know this whole episode has been very embarrassing for Manti but I think he has handled it really well. At this point, I predict Manti will just shrug this off. He seems almost desensitized to people's criticism at this point. Do others get that impression?

 

I think that San Diego got a real bargain on this second round pick. He made the comment that his drop in the draft is something he cannot control and will just motivate him to be better. I do not think that was just stock of the shelf talk. I think he will show that he means it with his performance on the field.

 

I have to admit I lost any desire to watch pro football a few years ago but I like following the ND players who go to the pros. It is going to be fun to follow Manti. I think he is going to do really well.

I, for one, am glad people keep making these jokes, pictures, memes, etc.. I was a little nervous about how good Manti would be in the NFL before, and now all this is going to do is motivate him even further. I think he knows the only way he can shut them up is to crush on the field. The way I see it, he has two options :

 

1. Let it get to him.. Play ILB like a ham sandwich in the NFL.. Get run out of town.. And then, combined with the GF situation, be one of the biggest jokes in sports history..

 

or 2. Take a mental note of all these jokes, pictures, memes, etc.. Hit the gym.. Motivate the locker room.. Play with a GIGANTIC chip on his shoulder.. and be a solid NFL player.

 

Manti's shown me nothing in the past that would make me guess he'd take any path but the latter..

Sadly, it'll NEVER pass. Every missed tackle, "was he trying to tackle his girlfriend?" Every city he goes to, signs mocking him. Manti will wear this Scarlett letter his entire career.

This guy does his talking on the field, he's got enough stuff motivating him to play harder. Seeing something like this just will add more fuel to his fire, like he has enough already this is just adding to it. Political cartoonists looking for an audience have been less than savory since our early history. Public figures are fair game apparently. Some of the actions that we have seen with fragile youth seems to be a completely different matter.

 

Some weirdo catfishing Manti is bad but he can handle himself. Some mother doing the same on the Internet with a teenage girl is another matter. Incidents like that and similar ones are the object of diminishing bullying in our culture. Manti was just an adult guilty of being gullible.

I've been saying this from the start, it is 100% the right way to go about it.
