ndomer4
I think we all see it is a very real possibility that one of these freshman come in and steal the show at the runningback derby. Both guys are big time recruits who had great offer lists. Also coming out of Florida level of competition and speed will not be a question. I'm pretty curious to know who you guys think has a better chance to contribute this season. It seems the consensus is that Greg Bryant can come in and push to start but I don't see much talk of Folston. I just watched both highlight tapes again and though Folston was a considerable amount faster. It seems Bryant is the more complete back at the moment but I wouldn't be shocked if Folston comes in and is the talk of position. Chime in everyone. nd_irish
I would think whichever one can pick up the offense faster will have a considerable advantage over the other.

REMND
It may not be a matter of which one has more talent. It will probably revolve around which one can pick up the assignments, block and execute. We know they can both carry the ball.
ndomer4
yes these are all obvious things. Runningback is one of the easiest positions for players to come in and play from high school to college. The playbook is not tough, and as long as they get their blocking down they're good to go. I have no clue because i never saw them block in their high school film and college linebackers are much bigger. I'm basically just looking to see who and why you think which player has a better chance to contribute early. I'm intrigued by Folstons elusiveness, an Oregon type like back we haven't had for awhile. Cierre was not slow but I think Folston is fairly faster than him. hawaiiirish
They both will face the same learning curve in the same rather brief fall--- The advantage then will be somewhere else and that somewhere will be physical maturity. Folston is a great prospect--one of my favorites out of this class--he has that flashy speed thats hard to resist--- BUT ADVANTAGE BRYANT --for getting in quickly--he is just so thick and muscular---at 5/10 & already over 200 pounds he will look as ready physically as ANY back we have on the roster.--- Cam & Carlisle can catch out of the backfield---Carlisle & atkinson bring that extra level of speed to turn the corner or turn a crease into a big gainer----BUT WHO CAN RUN BETWEEN THE TACKLES???___Mahone is not making a big move so there it is--- We need a big tough back that can run right at a defense---that IS NOT folston it is BRYANT--- So given the need and Gregs very developed physique---looks to me that the advantage goes to the 5 star for getting carries in the TEMPLE GAME! aloha's go irish! PJacksonsDred15
If my memory serves me right, Bryant's high school team played Folston's last season on national tv. Folston outperformed Bryant and looked a lot better in that one. But who really knows until they get here. I'd like to see them both as 1a 1b right away, with GAIII staying in the same role he had last year. I just don't have any faith that Amir Carlisle's health can hold up in a major role. Agree. However, I am not so sure we need aback to run between the tackles. Misdirection and screens will utilize the speed I think we will have. I don't expect to see the RBs pounding it up the middle until the Oline gets its rhythm and experience. Maybe by game

ND_Clover
This is the way I see it. Cam is our best current back right now without the freshman here. Atkinson is not and will not ever be a complete back. He will be productive only if they use him the way they did last year. When Bryant and Folston get here I think Bryant automatically becomes our second best option. I think Folston plays more of a slot role and red shirts behind prosise (spelling). ........I just hope that our staff doesn't waste to much time to realize that Atkinson is not our feature back and waste Cam's ability. Cam can run this offense very efficiently and should get the nod.

Although I think it will be a 60/40 passing offense, we might have to rely on Bryant and Cam if Carlisle does not come back strong.

People forget his dad played in the NFL he's gonna have him ready to compete in the fall he's also physically big enough to come in and compete. We haven't had a guy like Folston in a while! The ability to make guys miss and top end speed reminds me of a bigger deanthony Thomas. There's a reason Oregon recruited this kid to carry the rock and wasn't to redshirt. OKCIrish99
Bryant is more of the every down type back whereas Folston is more of a home run hitter. Prister was effusive about Folston's elusiveness. MUST get him on the field asap. Bryant is going to be a beast. Another perk is both of these guys have great hands. These 2 plus a healthy Amir Carlisle will DOMINATE on offense. Mark it down. There's a reason the offense didn't look so hot yesterday.
