So, I don't actually have the results, but a true online sleuth pulled up the Twitters of a couple people who appear to be claiming to be the perps, or to know who the perps are. Pretty unbelievable cache of information. I imagine this is the data that Swarbrick's investigators uncovered. Follow Justin Megahan on Twitter (@justinrmegahan).

Thankscguys

Now i can go to sleep

Manti - ND and the ND Nation knows you and the rest of the team are working around the clock on school, working out, practice, and dealing with us fans.

You were stalked - and with everything else going on you didn't have the time to figure that out. You were trusting. A lesson learned. Don't stop believing in the people around you - because we still believe in you.

Many people look up to you and I have used your example of how when people put the $hit behind them and work together they can achieve greatness.

Go Irish!!!!

How excellent is this.

RE: Colin: there's a record of many tweets from long ago in which people who clearly knew about the hoax are laughing about Te'o, which would suggest that he was not a co-conspirator.

justinrmegahan outed the perps it looks like. (i am no twit......ter user) lol.

This should clear up a lot of confusion. The history of the tweets up to the moment:

"Two People Joked About The Manti Te'o Fake Girlfriend Hoax Over A Month Ago On Twitter.

"Starting back in early December, a twitter user named jay.R tweeted about his knowledge of the Manti Te'o "Lennay Kekua" fake girlfriend hoax. First he claimed that it was inspired by the movie and TV show "Catfish."................

No offense to people who like it, but twitter is the absolute dumbest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

just like most things, it has it's pros and cons.

sex

pro: best thing ever

con: you die from it

Unfortunately, the pros don't have a very high ceiling. Like you won't see a ground-breaking science paper delivered via twitter. At it's absolute best, you can find out what your favorite celebrity had for breakfast, and then wish them well in their next performance.

As for the cons, I don't think we've seen how low we can go with twitter. This incident, I hope, is it's lowest point.

well, let's not blame twitter for this. twitter didn't make all this happen.

someone could tweet a link to that paper to get more people to see it.

anyway ....

Wait a minute. This hoax is not about twitter. It was perpetuated to some extent over Twitter, but it also apparently happened via Facebook and the phone. Is the phone evil?

Twitter is a way to reveal information to the world in the time it takes to type it out. Twitter posts include links to articles and photos. Everytime you post, it is like being published, and your subscribers are whoever your "followers" might be and whoever they retweet to.

As a result of Twitter, news and information comes out very fast. This is extremely useful during times of emergency like Hurricane Sandy where it was used by FEMA to get information in real time to the people affected.

But there is no fact checking on Twitter, so you have to filter the information you get from it using your own experience and logic. The truth comes out almost immediately, but so do literally thousands of other extraneous facts, opinions, and false information. Like anything else, and this is ironic given the nature of the story we are discussing, you have to know who or what to trust.

Yes, it has it's useful applications, but mostly I see it used for self-absorbed people to talk about themselves in real-time (because facebook wasn't instant enough), or for people to troll others.

Also, it makes me uncomfortable that people think that they have a right to access with public figures (see:this current situation)

I'm not trying to pick a fight, especially with 2lakes since he provides a valuable service to this board. But I don't think most people have a guy like 2lakes, to filter out all the BS, and only report relevant information.

I appreciate you saying that. I simply contend that Twitter is a tool and a vehicle, and like any tool or vehicle it can be and is misused on a constant basis.
