A challenge to DD posters, especially you in the know and those with contacts at ND. What was the Kelly-Eagles flirtation all about?

Was it Kelly's move to get his contract extended? To get his pay and that of his assistants up to a higher level? (I have no idea what the assts are getting paid and Jack has said he wants to see them paid fairly. Not sure if this implies that they currently aren't.)

Was it bad timing that hurt recruiting?

(I don't think so. In Anzalone's case this gave him perfect cover to change his mind - again. Hey, he's a kid and that's the kind of stuff we do at his age. Plus, he may have been looking at other ND commits and figured he wouldn't be the shiny new favorite toy.)

Was it a public relations mistake by Kelly?

Did Kelly overplay his hand here?

Did Kelly test his relationship with Swarbrick?

Or was it kabuki theater giving Jack cover to write Kelly a long coaching extension, given the disaster of Kevin White signing Charlie to a rich extension?

Or was this a masterful move by Swarbrick giving Kelly permission to talk to a team he'd never go to in the first place? If you wanted to coach in the NFL, would you seriously choose a team in the same division as the Cowboys, once known as America's team and the Giants, a big-money New York franchise? (Not to mention the Redskins as their city is where all of our money is going nowadays.)

I guess all we know is cheerleaders :)

sorry about that Celtic Import.

LOL no apologies necessary.

I did post earlier that we needed more T&A and sophomoric humor.

Carry on men.

Please elaborate.

Anyone who tells you that they know, or have insiders to answer to your questions, is full of crap.

A) The political answer is this was a assistant pay raise and facilities upgrade power-play.

B) The cynical answer is that this was about strong-arming ND into a big payday raise or that he had genuine interest in the NFL.

No one knows but Kelly.

From where did the "extra pay for assistants" information come? I remember reading it here but cannot remember where.

Anyone here who is a grown-up man with aspirations and any sort of drive or ego doesn't need an explanation.

Brian's climbed a tremendous mountain during his career and after a fantastic season one of the iconic franchises in the NFL called him in for an interview.

As any grown-up man with aspirations and any sort of drive or ego will tell you, you absolutely take that interview.

For various reasons.

First, you want to see what's being offered at the highest level imaginable relative to pay and - just as importantly - control.

Second, you have a checklist of improvements you think need to be made at your current spot and hope with some additional leverage you can get them taken care of.

I think Brian went in with eyes wide open, heard what he needed to hear, was open and honest about it with his current employer, contemplated the situation, handed his boss a list of things he'd like to see happen should he return, thought about it a bit further and ultimately decided he wants to stay at Notre Dame.

If anyone wants to make it more complicated or sinister than that, have at it.

But then, there are people who don't think we landed on the moon.

So take their thoughts for what it's worth.

Bingo. You nailed it right on the head.

So basically you are just reiterating what the administration is saying and what the beat writers are guessing.

I've been saying this since it was reported he was interviewing.

BK was genuinely curious in what the Eagles had to say and knew, at the very least, he could leverage their interest into a better situation at Notre Dame.

Again, people want to make it deeper and more sinister than it is and even question the man's integrity and passion for the university.

That is their prerogative.

But it was a very easy situation to read.
