" i appreciate the eagles reaching out for permission to speak to brian--I also appreciated brian keeping me fully informed during this process. We all look forward to whats ahead for ND football"

Aparrently WE--  ---were the only ones really in the dark---to us it seemed like we were dealing with lindsey lohan and her producer not a professional negotiation---but then we are responsible for our own emotions!!!!

Personally i just want to forget about this week---it did soften the hurt from monday's trouncing -- we hardly had a day to grieve over our loss and now it seems like ancient history---i guess thats mercifull in some weird way--

Hopefully the coaches will be reenergized to go out and finish this class in style, making up for the loss of the fella to florida---

ONWARD & UPWARD!!!---;)

aloha's go irish!

This is why the Internet and social media are detrimental sometimes. We as fans should know the end result but are not part of the process in between contact and a decision. Much ado about nothing and if the beginning and middle were just kept private - like it always has been before the Web and twitter, we wouldn't have seen such an irrational meltdown complete with fans embarrassing themselves.

Go Irish!

I am so guilty of over-reacting. I still wish Kelly just told them he is committed to Notre Dame, because now we know he is interested in the NFL.

And so do opposing recruiters...

I'm happy he's back, but its going to be an uphill battle in recruiting.

It doesn't seem to affect Saban. Therefore I see no effect on recruiting.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly didn't push for a raise or an extension during this week's flirtation with the Philadelphia Eagles, athletic director Jack Swarbrick told CBSSports.com on Saturday night.

And he didn't need to -- Swarbrick said he started lobbying for Kelly's reworked contract more than a month ago.

The school announced Saturday that Kelly would remain at Notre Dame after interviewing with Philadelphia. Though Kelly and Swarbrick talked throughout the process, Kelly notified the school of his decision early Saturday, before returning to the U.S. from the Bahamas, Swarbrick said. The two sides actually didn't talk much this week because money wasn't an issue and Kelly was fact-finding on his own, Swarbrick said.

Swarbrick suggested Kelly receive a new deal during a post-regular-season meeting in early December. Kelly did not make any financial requests this week, Swarbrick said.

"In every possible way I wasn't being leveraged," Swarbrick said. "I know people think there's a direct connection between the two events, but in our case it felt more routine internally than it did externally."

Swarbrick said the new contract has "more work to do" and won't be done in the next few days or even weeks.

The Eagles called Swarbrick about Kelly shortly after Andy Reid's Dec. 31 firing and well before the Irish's national title game against Alabama on Jan. 7. Swarbrick told the Eagles it was important Kelly not engage in conversations before the game, and the Eagles "understood and agreed. Brian was on board with that."

"In a sense it was great," Swarbrick said. "It made sure we were all on the same page."

Swarbrick said he knew Kelly was considering the job but always figured he'd return. As for whether Kelly will dance with the NFL every year, Swarbrick said maybe his coach's fact-finding process this week factors into his long-term planning.

"He absolutely burns to win a national title at Notre Dame," Swarbrick said.

He absolutely burns to win a national title. So why talk to the Eagles before national signing day. I know other coaches will use this against us, but Kelly knows how to handle recruits. So does Saban. I guess this goes with the territory. When Holtz was here you never had to even think about him leaving for greener pastures.

swarbrick is a lawyer........that's all that needs to be said...........

Pretty simple Oklahoma. If you've been with the same girl(a decent looking one) for 3 yrs and than equally, if not more pretty girl tells you that she's wants to talk to you about why she thinks you are great. Well, you are going to at least listen. That's what he did. Don't forget, this new girl is a girl that you have been infactuated with since grade school(NFL).

Another Q&A with Swarbrick, in the South Bend Tribune:

I have to say that every time I hear/see the man interviewed, I come away more impressed with him.

He's a fantastic AD. i don't think we could have gotten a better one.

I thought the Eagles would have had to ask permission so I had doubted that Kelly just slipped out the back door without ND knowing it. I guess you can mark this down to Brian doing his due diligence. I am not sure the Eagles are a team I would have explored but I am not Brian Kelly. It is nice to know that the assistants are also getting raises. There is a part of me that wonders if some of this was done to speed the process of those raises up a bit. We will never know nor should we.

The last thing I would like to bring up is this common reference to Lou Holtz. I agree Lou was not going to interview like this for two reasons. It was a different time and Lou had already tried and failed in the NFL. Lou knew what it was and I am sure realized he was not cut out for it.

It's not like Lou left and rode off into the sunset...he coached at South Carolina for few years.
