First time poster, long time lurker for about 5 years now.

 

Eagles owner's plane is in Chicago, according to Pat Boyle of csn Chicago. I think I trust him. Guy used to work at csn Philly, so I'm sure he's connected there as well as Chicago. O'Hare is a little more discreet than flying in to South Bend.

 

I think this is about to be over. Kelly is good as gone. He's fractured many of the in-roads he's made with the fans the past few years. This only gets more embarrassing the longer it drags out. I don't speak for all fans, only myself, and I don't want this chump on the sidelines next year. Thanks for taking us to the title game Monday, and good luck getting out-coached in the nfl.

Regardless... the extended silence on the part of ND (Swarbrick) and Kelly does not inspire confidence that the coach is going to be back, or back on happy terms.

 

It appears that so many people were just surprised by this whole situaton - assistant coaches, local press insiders, jeff jeffers... etc

 

No one is offering anything substantial - postive or negative.

 

They say no news is good news... but in crisis management... that's not the case.

 

I won't call this a full-blown crisis, but it is a situation that was unexpected and unplanned. Usually the professionals have a statement out or other leaks to diffuse the situation... but nada.

Lovie Smith is in San Diego or South Dakota today according to that same source. So if Lurie is in Chicago it's likely for that follow up interview w/ Kelly we heard about when this story first leaked earlier in the week.

Kelly is supposed to be at the Walter Camp dinner tonight in Connecticut. Wonder what happens with that?

First of all, this is an internet message board: people state their opinions. Or is that not ok? Second, fan and alumni reaction is actually quite significant, because it gives Swarbrick that much more weight if he's playing a game of chicken with Kelly. If fans, alumni, and boosters turn their backs on Kelly, it won't be as difficult for Swarbrick to play hardball.

Hahaha...There are several people that feel this way. Philly there is a dream job. That place is a hot mess. You are right I'm sure he doesn't care if I respect him or not. I would take Notre Dame over Philly any day just saying. Kelly got out coached by Saban. Correct me if I am wrong I clearly remember the NFL sending him back to college ball with his tail between his legs.

You all do realize how little we pay Kelly, right? Charlie and Ty, by far worse coaches, made a lot more. Maybe Jack suggested Kelly do this to drum up some more money from donors, since Jack's hands are a little tied paying out previous coaches...

 

I'm not really worried about it, because this unfolds one of a few ways. Kelly stays. Kelly leaves and we promote Chuck Martin, maintaining continuity. Or, Kelly leaves and we get somebody big time who recognizes that we're loaded with talent and you can win at Notre Dame. On that note, it better not be Charlie Strong. That guy is ok...not great.
