Would all of you still be PO'd at Kelly?

I don't like the timing of it just like the rest of you, but if it means that guys like Alford, Martin, and Diaco get significant pay raises to keep them in their jobs, would you feel differently about how this all went down?

Don't know if this is the case or not, just throwing it out there. And when you look at Bama's staff (Kirby Smart in particular), you see continuity that has had a significant impact on their current run.

What would all of your thoughts be?

The timing is the timing. NFL teams are filling up coaching vacancies left and right, trying to get a system in place so they can decide how they want to approach the draft. The Eagles job will be filled before the Conference championship games, now's the time for interviews.

He wanted turf and a jumbotron a few years ago and was very publicly shot down by Jack. He wants Diaco and Martin to get a paid day. He wants turf. He wants a jumbotron. He has a list of demands and now was the time to strike.

Kelly played a game of chicken with the university knowing full well that he held all the cards. Good for him. No way was Jack or the university going to sit idling by and watch him walk. He could have asked for anything and got it and he prolly did and will.

I would certainly respect him looking out for those that he relies on rather than just trying to improve his situation. I think this could've been done without the Eagles interview causing this kind of drama though. Still, knowing that part of his motivation was to help his assistants would restore some faith in him.

I truly hope this is the case...

GO IRISH!

IF what you say is true Kelly took one hell of a chance.

What chance??

What chance??

Agree.. >There is no chance. Worst case senerio is tat he ends up at a job makign more money.

What chance??

The chance that a bunch of girlymen ND fans would succumb to a wave of mass hysteria not seen since Orson Wells' War of the Worlds broadcast?

Haaaaaaaaaaaa

I wasn't pissed off in the first place. Bunch of posters and fans are acting like brats and acting like the world is ending. I've lost a lot of respect for so many posters here in the last 48 hours, it's not even funny.

Same here.

Best post of the entire Kelly/NFL saga. Bravo.

The chance of his recruiting class jumping ship....the chance of the university losing credibility....the chance of everything he has accomplished (so far) being washed down the drain....get my drift??

But none of those things were going to happen. Losing a 4.73 speed MLB, who has been waffling for months and that we originally flipped from a tOSU commitment, does not equal the sky flying on this class...

Agreed. We lost ONE GUY.

If Jaylon, Max, and Bryant all started saying "wow, don't know what to think, I may have to open things back up," and smoe of the four-star guys started looking around, THEN you'd have a right to be upset.

We have lost ONE. GUY.

Boy if BK can swing a jumbotron out of this....yay!

No joke man. http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/viewpoint/the-jumbotron-factor-1.2588583

I had a moment of clarity Saturday night with 4:23 left in the 4th quarter: We need a jumbotron. Robert Blanton had just intercepted Denard Robinson's pass in the end zone protecting our 24-21 lead. It was a huge moment in the game and should have been a big momentum shift.

But it wasn't.

During the TV timeout, Michigan flashed clips from their glory years on their jumbotrons while blaring The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army." Two minutes of "dunt-dun-dunt-dunt-dunt-dunnnnn-duuuuuu" with 100,000 maize pom-poms in the air while they showed Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson highlights. My friend turned to me and said, "It's as if they just scored a touchdown instead of throwing an interception." He was right.

You know the rest. Three and out. They score to take the lead. When we scored with 30 seconds left there was still no quit in their fans. Their energy willed their team to victory.

The jumbotrons gave them that energy.

Kelly still under contract yes? So if he had permission from Swarbrick, he could always say no to NFL and always have his job back at ND.

Guess his risk is alienating recruits and message boards?

He's a politician. It's like sticking a pay raise rider inside a "help the orphans" bill.

They will polish this turd before the ink dries

Eh, I'm over it. I understand why he did it. Not sure I agree with the method but I put more blame on his agent for that.

If all we sacrifice for keeping all our coaches for a few more seasons is one shaky recruit, I'm ok with it. Fans (myself included) are a fickle bunch. Remember the uproar over the Shamrock Series uniforms? I went from "hate them" to "who cares" in the span of a week. Stuff happens, people react. NBD

College football doesnt work that way, which is why I created a thread about the hypocrisy of college football.
