I can tell you from my own experience that I'd rather hit 5'10" 245 every day instead of 6'2" 230. Those big guys just beat the shit out of you when they came through the hole.

Those knees do hurt.

Idk why you keep bringing up QBs hahaha

And you just said Marcus Dupree injured his knee...so you're backing up what he's been saying about durability issues for tall RBs.:rapture:

The point is obvious. These are running quarterbacks. My point on Dupree is that a taller back can mean more explosiveness it acknowledged durabilty could be an issue. Obviously other posters have named guys like Dickerson, etc.... Many tall backs with awesome records and durability.

I do not think you can compare running QBs to RBs...the positions are completely different. The QBs can slide or run out of bounds, they dont take the same amount of punishment on a regular basis. I dont think anyone is denying the fact that taller guys can be excellent runners. However the issue is that they USUALLY do not hold up. The guys that were listed are freaks, once in a generation type guys. I am not saying he cant succeed at running back, just saying it isnt the norm to have a guy that size.

Not to belabor point anymore than it already has been, but I have to differ with the statement that tall RBs USUALLY don't hold up and that as Hoosier said this is "common knowledge". There are plenty of examples of durable tall guys that would suggest that they are around more than once in a generation. Can somebody please show me something, anything, that suggests that these guys break down at a greater rate than shorter backs? I realize that there are less tall backs out there but This is not a product of them breaking down. I would say that it's a product of them not getting the opportunity to play the position in the first place.

because even high school coaches know that using a 6'3" guy at RB is usually not the best idea for multiple reasons.

OK. We don't want Ty Isaac because he is too tall.

Right. I am not disagreeing with you there. I don't think that one of the multiple reasons is that it's "common knowledge" that they break down. They usually don't play them at running back because a kid that is 6'2" or 6'3" in high school is going to be one of the biggest guys on the team. They will play him on the line or, if he is thin, they will play him at wide receiver or at quarterback. This is because we have come to think of those positions as being reserved for tall players and look at running back as a spot where height isn't as much of an asset as it would be for a QB or WR. It doesn't mean that tall guys are any less capable of playing RB or less durable. Joliet Catholic, where Isaac plays, has always been known to have an offense that is heavily dependent upon their running game. With his athletic ability, it would have been a waste to play him at QB. However, they do line him up at WR sometimes and if you watch his highlight reels, he is a solid receiver.

USC rivals site reporting that TOS is saying isaac has visit set with nd. I can't confirm bc I don't have a TOS subscription but this would be great news.

Looks like an Isaac visit may be happening.

no one said that Okie. I just personally want him as a LB, but I would still take him as a RB, its just I fear for his durability at the RB position. Besides, with two great RBs already committed, not sure I want to use a scholarship on another RB, especially one that has a high chance of breaking down.

Enough of the rb-height talk

Nd has been talking to Isaac with the understanding that lb is a distinct possibility. Isaac has actively involved himself in continuing this dialogue.

He may well end up at rb but this consternation is much too premature.

He's a RB and one of the very best , this height talk is just plain stupid. Ty is an elite RB and even if tall RBs aren't the norm he's the exception anyways.

Ty might have the best hands regardless of position and he's faster than both Bryant and Folston.

Since this thread is now a 3-pager, I have to ask: who is "Ty issac"? Is he on the same team as "Folson"?

Has it already been asked whether Rudy is a plus or a minus for this Joliet Catholic boy?
