I agree with this and would support it if Kelly were to leave. There really isn't anybody available who is better than Martin. He would be very successful at ND. I still think Kelly is staying, though. Martin will be the HC at ND at some point, IMO.

Here is Chuck Martin's Head coaching record:

Grand Valley State is a far cry from Notre Dame

Not sure how I would feel about it. It seems like Chuck would be skipping an important step IMO and that's taking over a D1 program and proving he can recruit and win against the big boys. I guess beggers can't be choosers though and it might be better than gutting our coaching staff and losing our top ranked recruiting class.

My guess would be Chuck to HC, with Alford to offensive coordinator. The full court press would need to be put on Diaco to prevent him from leaving.

If Kelly goes, he is the coach in waiting, He has a stellar record as a head coach. Came to his "dream place," ND whom he has loved since he was a kid. Coached the defensive side here and was in charge of recruiting, them moves over to the offensive side this year. He KNOWS every player on offense and defense and would keep the staff and recruits intact and would stay at ND for a very long time.

This is a no-brainer, folks

B Kelly just wants a raise. All is well in my opinion.

yeah, agreed.

chuck martin has that jim harbaugh attitude as well; id be totally on board.

not too many coaches id want over chuck. in fact, i think he would be my #1 choice just as BK was 3 years ago.

Martin turned down HC gigs just to hang out at ND. He would be a perfect fit. He loves ND and you'd have to drag him away from there.

He exudes positivity and excitement. I really like the guy.

I really like the guy too.. I really liked CW. We need another guy like Brian that we can get to stay in the college ranks.

Ever since the day Kelly was hired and I first heard about and researched Chuck Martin's record and statements I have felt he would one day take over the program.

Even if it was at GVSU, 74-7 with 6 playoff berths, 5 conference championships, 3 National title games and back-to-back National Championships is pretty damned impressive. He has also been a recruiting asset and key member of Kelly's staff right alongside Diaco and Alford. And Martin already has experience at not only replacing BK, but taking the program BEYOND what BK built originally...

Seriously?

Not saying Chuck isn't a good coach but really? All hypothetical but IF Kelly is to move on:

We Just came off a National Title run, have a top 3 recruiting class and have some great young talent. You think the best we could do is someone from our own coaching staff? Not to be too negative but there is a reason some he wasn't involved in some of the coach searches lately.

With all the history, and where we are talent wise not too many current head coaches out there wouldn't think ND would be a great opening. Its not like the cupboards are bare.

Personally, I'd put Charlie Strong on top of a short list of Head coaches that would include the likes of some top head coaches out there. And if we were to hire a guy that's a coordinator, Kirby Smart would be on top of that list.

Just saying there is talent out there that i would look at well before our current staff. Not saying our staff is trash just saying lots of fish in the sea that would LOVE to be sitting where Kelly is right now.

I have a strong feeling that Charlie would stay at Louisville. He will be loyal to them for obvious reasons. I like Martin and think he is the top choice. Charlie be a fine hire but look to lose some this class if it goes that way.

With the players that we have here already and the monster class we have coming in, alot of coaches would now be interested that once weren't....

But we don't have to worry about none of this cause Kelly is not going anywere right now

Charlie Strong would be a strong hire.

Didn't he sign a massive extension with Louisville?

He did:thumb:

I was thinking about this today, i would love for the current staff to stick together and the way to do that in my opinion is to hire either Martin or Diaco. I think Diaco could be good but i agree that martin is the safer pick because he has the head coaching experience, im just not sold on diacos resume. It also didnt help that his defensive genius was exposed last monday.

Meaningless if we were to come calling...Our situation would be very hard to turn down.

Not saying he would be the guy, but saying this job would be hard to pass up for some bigger name coaches. If ND tapped him on the shoulder he would jump at the chance.

While Martin's HC experience is all at GV, he's had three years within the ND experience and that helps. He's acclimated to the university, its atmosphere and the expectations. He has connections to the players and our existing coaches so that continuity would be a plus. That doesn't mean he would be my first choice but I don't think he would be the worst choice by any means.
