No SEC teams ahead of us beyond bama--

Despite the mess last night it was a great and surprising season for a team that was unranked.

Some perspective is good---

A top 5 finish

A top 5 recruiting class

This is not what we ended up with over the last 15 or so years.

The layoff was no help to us--it happened to florida as well--many considered florida's defense the BEST in the SEC--yet they got eaten up by bridgewater & Louisville---thats football--especially in bowl season.

The Florida team would have lost 5 or 6 games had they played like they did in the bowl--we would NOT have beaten either stanford or oklahoma if last nights team had played all year.

We got OUTPLAYED__OUTCOACHED__OUTPREPARED---During the layoff we lost or mojo, our momentum and alabama regained their stamina and health---Thats football---

15 returning starters---Golson looked good despite the LOB passes which we could shelve IMHO and since we could not RUN 38 yards or so --OUCH---Golson played pretty well--DANIELS WAS TERRIFIC--and after his injury--the only really good performance but TJ looked good as well--

Likely we would have scored 24 points and played close if OUR DEFENSE could have turned this into the slugfest they usually did---

A terrible end to a terrific season---still a lot to look forward to over the next five years---

perspective is important----we used to go through this 5 or 6 times a year-----

We will be back next year and hopefully a bit better ---

aloha's go irish!

#5 and 12-1 is a lot to be happy about even thought the bowl game didn't go our way. it was just a few years ago we all would have been okay with a #20 finish and now we our finishing in the top ten. onward and upward.

Face it LSU, Georgia, A&M,South Carolina, Florida and possibly Vandy (not to mention Bama) would beat the Irish 90% of the time. They are just too quick, hit harder and play in your face football.

As long as ND keeps playing the Purdues, Navys, (and in the future Temple, Rice, U Mass) of the world they will continue to get pounded in BSC bowl games. They need to toughen up the schedule and stop playing the "gimmies" to boost their ego.

Um... see Florida vs Louisville... you are wrong.

This was a team that forgot to tackle... and that's kinda a big part of the game.

Although I believe you are a serious Debbie Domer Downer.... I agree. Our schedule needs to work some SEC foes in there. ACC crap isnt going to do it.

Great Year. I for one totally enjoyed the year and am looking forward to more of it.

12-1 and in the national championship game.....I will take it!

Obviously last night was a kick in the balls but this season was A LOT of fun. BK continues to learn new things and this team is only going to get better and better.

GO IRISH!

You guys don't think ND tries to make the best schedule possible? When's the last SEC team to go north of the Mason Dixon line? The SEC doesn't schedule Notre Dame or any tough northern opponents, they concentrate their season on their in conference opponents and staying close to home base. The SEC wants no part of playing Notre Dame in 30 degree weather.

yep thats true--we had tennesee for a few years --that was when we weren't too good and they were pretty good---still that didn't work out well for the volunteers---i think both charlie & Ty beat them---

SEC non-conference games against top teams is NOT something that conference looks to schedule.

Our schedule is fine---our competition is fine--we just need to get better -

If you look at bama's schedule in 2013 its absolutely NOT more difficult then ours---

aloha's

UMASS, RICE, Temple , Wake Forest. That's the best schedule possible? I dont know... maybe your point about the SEC is right.... but how do we know that for sure? I have never heard an AD at Notre Dame say that they cant get anyone in the SEC to play them.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a bad idea to play hard opponents week-in and week-out? I mean don't get me wrong, it'd be nice to have an SEC team or two on our schedule, but I don't think we should be scheduling the 4 best SEC teams each year. Hell, next year 'Bama only plays LSU.

Schedule balance is a delicate thing; it's an awfully hard thing to get your team fired up every weak against a top 25 team. It's like in weightlifting- you can't go heavy every single day week after week; sometimes you gotta de-load and rest up.

i agree the SEC plays atleast 2 Division 1AA, i dont know what they call those teams now, each a year, the irish have never played one. they have their cupcakes too. quite frankly the bottom of the SEC isn't all that great either.

they did forget how to tackle, i said for 2 months that they would tackle better then georgia, i was wrong.

Our schedule this year was just fine. The problem was they all laid an egg in the game that mattered most, coaches, players, etc. Everyone deserves some of the blame for this loss.

What ? Are you kidding me . Put ND in the SEC this year and they would have one to two losses tops. The SEC is the best conference right now but there's not as big of a gap is people make it out to be. Did you not see any of the Bowl games this year. Give me a break. Notre Dame would have still had a shot at a National title if they played in the SEC this year.

2012 was perfect

as much as I love hawaii's post, this is not accurate. Getting blown away in the Title Game and everyone doubting you is not a perfect ending.

Yes, but now we are in 2013. ND was unbeaten and untied in 2012.

I don't agree with the AP ranking.

Ohio State even though they were undefeated should not be ahead of Notre Dame who was also undefeated during the same stretch of season.

I can understand Oregon getting to #2 after beating Kansas State. but ND should be 3, not Ohio State.

this years schedule looked a lot tougher before the season. AT Oklahoma, AT USC, Stanford.

Did you watch any of the bowls champ? The SEC could barely beat the big ten and the ACC.

And the you talk about gimmees an don't mentions the fact that the SEC plays multiple FCS teams each year.

At least your punctuation was okay.

"Our schedule this year was just fine. The problem was they all laid an egg in the game that mattered most, coaches, players, etc. Everyone deserves some of the blame for this loss."

I don't take ANY responsibility for the loss! I wore my lucky ND hat and everything! :)

Yes, but now we are in 2013. ND was unbeaten and untied in 2012.

Ding Ding Ding

And ND's "2011" bowl game was in 2011. Therefor, ND didnt lose a game in 2012, well except for the spring game, but that was only half of the team.
