Thought I'd start a thread to remind us all of the gems people post...

In regards to the shoving match between AJ McCarron and Barrett Jones in the BCS game:

Sadly, that's the hardest anyone hit AJ all evening.

In regards to the Huuuuge overreaction of many boardies this last few days in regards to the story that BK was flirting with the Eagles:

The chance that a bunch of girlymen ND fans would succumb to a wave of mass hysteria not seen since Orson Wells' War of the Worlds broadcast?

Apparently negotiations are now going on between ND & Kelly----one of the major issues of the negotiations is compensation adjustments for his assistants---thats according to II

This sounds like encouraging news in general--maybe another day or two and this will be over.

Speaking about talent sets...

I guess you'd have to watch Ben play regularly to understand....He had almost nothing to do with the Steelers beating the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.... But no QB has had a worse line over the last 5 years. Ben's importance doesn't always show up on a stat sheet.

There is no one like him in football.

Pffft. There are plenty of rapists in the NFL.

I keed. I keed.

I see a lot of Roethlisberger in Andrew Luck, too . . .

Please, enough with the rape jokes

Ahahahahahaha...awesome

Been a while since something was worthy...

Let me be clear: I don’t care about Gunner Kiel, Davonte Neal and Justin Ferguson. I don’t wish them ill in any way shape or form, I’m sure they’re all nice enough kids, I’m just not going to bat an eye at their decisions to leave Notre Dame. Upset about your lack of playing time? Air a bit too brisk? Unhappy with the pesky demands made by your classwork? Not pleased with having to compete with more motivated individuals for your place on the depth chart? Have a new baby 1,500 miles away? Whatever. You’ve got your reasons; you’ve made your choices; good luck to you in the game of life.

But what does concern me are the larger, more systemic flaws these transfers (and decommitments, for that matter) drag into to an unflattering light. Namely that decades of willful mismanagement of the football program, and a stubborn refusal to evolve beyond an antiquated and embarrassingly idealistic notion of how college football should operate, have left Notre Dame with virtually no leeway for the type of personnel wastage that other programs consider as matter-of-course. Whether kids like Kiel, Neal and Ferguson ever would have panned-out is anybody’s guess. But even if they never see meaningful minutes for their programs, those must-have, high-ceiling kids serve another, equally important function: they form the bedrock on which successful, durable football programs are built and sustained. They cushion the talent drop-off between 1st and 4th string. They ease transitions, ameliorate the blow from injuries, and ensure that slip-ups don’t occur against inferior opponents. They may not develop into a program’s primary option, but they most assuredly are its life blood.

That National Championship game should have been a Road to Damascus moment for this football program. Like it or not, the discomfiting truth is that Notre Dame is more than just a few, short years away from seriously competing for a championship against an upper-tier SEC program. And it’s irresponsible to think defections like these won’t widen a gap that one may justifiably consider as insurmountable. Ignoring this problem is as dangerous and unacceptable as some of the “next-man-in” rationalizations people are tossing around. Something needs to be done—and quickly: either an institutional softening or recodifying of principles, or a wholesale re-gauging of expectations from the fanbase, because this is rapidly becoming an irreconcilable conundrum . . .

I second this......

How about some Run Block Tuesday, Pass Block Wednesday, Wrap up Tackling Thursday, and Pass Rush Friday!

I'd rather see that than beerless beer pong.

Back to happy thoughts.

i'm sorry, but judging a player off of his high school film is like judging phil collins "in the air tonight" by the first 3 and a half minutes.

From the Other ND Sports Forum "Where you at Rattler?" thread.. Corysold tossed this together at the idea of the world's first message board, "Colonial Domain"..

Colonial Domain, now that was a message board. I searched the archives and found this gem of a thread.

CorySelleth - Does anyone really think Washington can win at Yorktown? Sure, he won some big battles in the French and Indian War, but these are Big Boy Battles now.

Echo1688 - I know right. He's recruiting 4 and 5* soldiers out of Pennsylvania and Delaware, but they are fighting like 2 and 3*'s.

CorySelleth - That's what I mean. He barely won at Oriskany. Lost to an inferior foe at the Battle of Princeton. Lost at GERMANTOWN for crying out loud!!! I'm a little happy he tried to aggressive flanking at the end, but really, you have them on the ropes. Use the artillery and win the battle!

AdderSnake - I'm with you guys. Other than the Battle of WhitePines, does he have a win over a superior foe? Monmouth, Brandywine etc. These are all wins over inferior foes.

Buccannery - Sure, a win is a win, but can he rout someone once in awhile? You know, win the battle convincingly from the first shot?

NDBowzinga - Come on guys. A win is a win. I thinketh you've been drinking too much ale.

Echo1688 - So I can't discuss the pitfalls of Washington's battle plan unless I've partaked in too much ale? What does that even mean?

NDBowzinga - No, you can discuss it. But we are fighting for freedom here. Wins are all that matters.

CorySelleth - Sure, wins are nice, but what is he going to do at Yorktown vs. Cornwallis? Can he fight with the big boys?

PippilongstockingsHyptohesis - Guys, I looked at Lithographs with Washington and James Johnston the other day. If you haven't been a general in a battle, you can't know what they are trying to do. It isn't as though they are trying to lose these battles. They go over battle plans for days and days before these things. They aren't reading this board looking for ideas.

Buccannery - Washington is 6/18 with the artillery. His calvary is only averaging 2.4 casualties per charge. That is like 64th in the world right now. I can't even remember the last time he used the musketeers.

CorySelleth - I know right? Who goes into battle in straight lines and takes fire? Can you use some misdirection? Maybe a new formation? It's like he is pounding his head against the wall. It is pretty clear to me the 114th out of Delaware is the best infantry unit he has, but he keeps putting the 178th of New York out front. It just doesn't make any sense.

PippilongstockingsHyptohesis - It is just like you to always want the young, new unit. The 178th is dependable. Washington uses them for a reason you know.

NDFirstState - We call that "ShinyNewUnit" syndrome.

LargeCranium76 - Last I heard, Washington is bringing in some pretty special new units. An artillery out of Cali that is top notch, 4.2 on the cannon reload. Also, right now they are out front for a calvary unit out of Spain of all places. Most think they'll end up British due to proximity, but Washington put Benjamin Lincoln on them and it seems we are making up ground fast.

Echo1688 - That's all great, but Washington has been bringing in top 10 units for years now, but he's fighting like he has a bunch of hobos with pocketknives. It's time he starts beating the big boys.

El Senor Colonial - BWAHHAHAHAHAA - Hobos with pocketknives, classic!

AdderSnake - Even if he wins at Yorktown, the Japanese Empire has been beating the likes of the Chinese, Catherine of Russia and the Persians. That strength of schedule is just unheard of. No way Washington gets up ahead of them in the world rankings.

It seems the more things change, the more they stay the same.

You guys are too nice. Al Gore let me copy and paste that from an early iteration of the internet his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather started.

Well done.... Clearly you have too much time on your hands.
