Notre Dame played Pitt. Really. How did that happen? Pitt's game plan might be how Bama has a chance to pull off the miracle.

That didn't look good for ND.

Two teams that ND struggled with have been dominated by SEC teams with better defensive performances than ND.

I'll grant you, it's how Notre Dame wins, but that can't inspire confidence.

And don't use a list like that because it looks worse for ND...

How did OU hang with ND?

How did Pitt hang with ND?

How did Purdue hang with ND?

How did BYU hang with ND?

Poor play in first half....no Lou nix or KlM in first half....Pitt happened to be playing their best game while nd played its worse....similar to that close UF Wofford game....

Put it this way our first half against Pitt was similar to bamas first quarter against A&M.....they were just in another world or something

There you go. The two players out.

There is a hangover effect. It happened to Bama after the LSU game. Johnny Football happened as well, and they were better than the Tide that day. It does have an effect though.

Coaster, more than one time zone? It was a Notre Dame home game versus Pitt. Right?

How in the world did that team hang with the Irish?

No but Pitt had FOUR starters out against Ole Miss including Graham who is unquestionably their best player. Not saying Pitt is a great team, but if you want to use the logic that ND is not that good because they only beat a Pitt team they out gained by over 200 yards by 3 pts, I guess Alabama isn't that good because they barely beat LSU who lost to Florida who got crushed by Louisville. Btw Pitt was beating Louisville in the second half this year. They were a very up and down team this year.

That didn't look good for ND.

How does it look worse for ND? That makes no sense.

The point is that it happens all the time in college football...

Pretty sure we pulled away from OU in the second half

Purdue was the 2nd game of Golson's career

Michigan and BYU were QB'd by Rees

Pitt played the best 3 quarters of their season when ND played the worst 3 quarters of their season

That didn't look good for ND.

OU didn't

Bad day

Long flight from Ireland

If you see tommy Rees play in the NCG you'll know why

Look this is bullshit...ND went undefeated against a tough schedule...who cares there's no rule saying you have to win by 21 when the team isn't in the top 25...

If you think bama with a bunch of blowout wins (the good teams they didn't beat by much) and 1 loss is more impressive than an undefeated record with a schedule that includes 9 teams that went bowling....then your opinion is noted but you are wrong

Btw if your expecting any of those teams that played in those games to show up you're going to be disappointed.....offense will be better than it has all season and defense will be same ole tough to score on

A and M was up 20-0 on us before my daughter and could finish our souvenir helmet full of Dippin Dots.

It seems that ND has played to the level of their competition, so as to the NC game look for ND to be very competitive. Go Irish......

OU didn't hang with ND....

30-13

Did you watch the game? You wouldn't say that if you watched the game.

Notre Dame goes up by 7 (20-13) with ~10 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

OU throws an interception on first down at midfield with ~5 minutes left to go in the game. This clearly was not an interception. The replay shows it hitting the ground and it should have been overturned. You convert this to a field goal. OU turns the ball over on downs at their own 20 yard line. This is converted to a TD.

That's called a hanging with you. That's a close game where the score clearly didn't reflect how close the game was.

Not an indictment of Notre Dame due to their squeaker as much as my disbelief that the game could be close at all. I just couldn't imagine Pitt doing much of anything against them. Notre Dame's in a different league of play.

It's easy to see A and M dropping Bama. They're better in so many ways. I don't see Pitt being better than ND in ANY way.

And the LSU bama score is a loss for bama that doesn't show in the score....a wins a win unless it happens for a team you don't like then its a mirage of a program everyone thinks is worse than they are

I agree or maybe rather they have no offense and are one of those defensive teams that just wins ugly. There have been a lot of teams that have been successful like this at all levels of football. The Ravens won a Superbowl with a terrible QB and a dominating defense.

Again, don't be a homer.

ND has played a lot of close games against teams that haven't been very good. It shouldn't inspire confidence when you see these teams get demolished. It doesn't mean you aren't going to win. It doesn't mean you aren't good. It doesn't mean you don't have a chance. It does mean, you played close games with a lot of teams that you would not expect a #1 team to have problems with. You expect one or two down games a year, 4-5 is possible, but you don't expect that.

I can't believe no one remembers that the flu was running its course through the team the week of the Pitt game, and a few guys spent a day or two in the infirmary.

The defense doesn't work when Nix is out. He had the flu along with half the team. He lost a ton of weight during the week and had no stamina to play the whole game.

Him being in the game at all was more a testament to his toughness. I think he saw the defense struggling and he sucked it up.

More importantly, who still cares about a game that happened like two months ago?

It's the Alabama fans starting to act like Trolls....

When are people going to learn you can't use this common opponents excuse. It just doesn't work. Every team has a different style of play and different strengths and weaknesses. As well there are always injuries and sickness which end up hurting a team. This Notre Dame team has more depth than in recent years but the best teams have depth everywhere. We still may well be the best team but we saw when Nix was out we are really weak behind him. I'm sick of these excuses, it doesn't matter how you win it's if you win. Noone cares in the end as long as your undefeated.

Depth behind Nix is a huge concern for me. Really the only position I am worried about.
