Weird fact: A colleague of mine's dad owns virtually all of the small businesses in Steubenville. Because he practically owns the small town, he allows us to run annual training exercises there with fill access to all buildings. I can't imagine what the population there must think when they see us running around with weapons and conducting helo insertions...

The whole town sounds corrupt as hell. On their wiki, it states Steubenville has a long history of political corruption. This is a very, very bad case. "KnightSec" is in on it now, and is going to nail the guilty now. I wouldn't be surprised if this went down like the Sandusky incident taking many down. Clearly a major coverup.

My old college roommate played for the Big Red. I have been there one time when I visited him, this was about 15 years ago when we were still in college. I saw things happen there, I saw girls do things that I had never seen before, I saw other guys treating women in ways I could have never imagined, obviously not the extent in which the young lady in this story was treated however.

 

Please don't anyone take this the wrong way, this young lady is a victim and these kids need to be punished severely. I do think however that there is a culture in that town that makes young men think they can they can do whatever they want to girls, and I think that culture also teaches the young women that it is just how it is. That is the way it is.

My experience in Steubenville has been the exact opposite. I went there once on a Catholic retreat at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. I think I was in 8 or 9th grade. Everyone was extremely religious...to the point where at mass one night they brought out the Eucharist displayed in that gold sun shaped thing and people we're raising their arms and shouting and fainting and all this stuff as christian music was playing. It was weird. But def not like the corrupt stuff i've been hearing...

Do you want the sad truth, and why this type of stuff happens all the time in the ghetto? Because the law doesn't require bystanders to help. This is why we have half the problems we have in this country. There is ZERO requirement for you to help when a criminal act is occurring unless you were involved in creating the problem.

 

If a girl consciously drinks, gets too drunk, and passes out at a party, you didn't create that problem, unless you tricked her into drinking something she didn't know she was drinking.

 

And... That's the sad truth. It was appalling to me to find out in law school that there is no obligation to assist or call the cops or anything when a crime occurs. That's our f'ed up liberal country for you, because you have freaking hippies who say, "You can't tell me I have to call the cops!" Instead, they'd rather have the government tell you that you can't have other liberties.

 

Anyway, that's beside the point... Our law is at fault on this one, because it allows douchebags to run amock while standing back to allow a girl to get raped.
