He's only got a few practices in...he says he's close to 100 percent, but I'd have to wonder about his conditioning

Over a month without really use a leg and then getting just a couple of days...

But if there was anyone on that roster who could bounce back and have a monster game, it'd be Jones. Kid is a mauler.

If Barrett says he is close to 100% I am certain he is. I think his close to 100% is still the best Nix will have faced all year. It will be interesting to see how his conditioning holds up. Conditioning has never been a factor at any point in his career (starting 49 games on the line) so we will see. for a 300 pounder he is in good shape.

They did say, even though he didn't practice he has put in a lot of time on the stationary bike, running in the poll and on our zero gravity treadmill. He'll certainly have some gravity, in the form of Nix, pulling on him Monday night though!

None of those things will prepare him for playing an actual football game though. His cardiovascular endurance my be close to 100% but he hasn't been hit in well over a month and logic dictates that anybody with that type of layoff will struggle.

This has to be a plus area for ND that we will attack on monday night

I would be more worried about 326 # repeatedly stepping on his foot. we will see how he holds up...

I really don't think any of the players have been hit in over a month... Practicing in pads is not the same as game contact. If he is good then he's good. If not, we have a capable backup who has gotten plenty of preparation time.

Ouch! I don't think Nix is the type to step on his foot on purpose though.

Nix is a 1st round NT. Jones is a 2nd round lineman with no extensive cardio work in over a month. I think the advantage goes to Nix as the game goes on.

A guard will have to help Jones by the second half. How the LBs take advantage of this will be the tale of the game.

He wont be completely healthy and Saban knows this. His presence will be felt in that fact that he is sort of that captain of the offense in making blocking calls. (I believe anyway) I'm not sure that the backup could come in and make up for that even though the backup is healthy. Saban has had a month to gameplan around a less than 100% Jones. Nix has got to get good penetration and tie up one of the guards.

Are you calling Nix dumb?? Any good athlete/team is going to go after an opponents weakness. It is no different than a QB throwing to a WR guarded by a CB that just came into the game. You don't think Saban is going to force Golson to throw because he knows that is a weakness? You don't think Quinton Dial hit Aaron Murray after the INT because he is the starting QB and knocking him out of the game would have been an advantage for Bama? How is Nix stepping on Jones' foot any different?

Picturing Nix chasing Jones around the field to stomp on his foot is funny.

'slider' from top gun would say 'so does my johnson'

Haha................

I don't think that is at all what I said. Let me clarify.... If it is during a play and Nix happens to step on his foot through his natural movement than hey, no biggie. What I am saying is that I don't think Nix is a dirty player and I doubt we will see him specifically go after Barrett's foot, on purpose in a way that is cheap or dirty. I certainly could be wrong, I know it happens all the time but I tend to hold Nix in higher regard than that.

i don't think Nix is like Suh

He is fine! 100%...stop wishing upon a star...he is a 22 year old stud athlete...Irish gotta bring it! There will no easier routes...

Go Irish !!!!

Expect an emphasis on the stretch and blast run game. They will set one up with the other and play action off it. I expect a lot of cut blocks and for jones to be playing at the legs of Nix if in a zero technique... ND may also go with an even front, forcing jones to reach on Manti and put nix/Schwenke/Day/Springmann in a rotation on Warmack and Let Schembo/Williams speed rush Kuandijo...

Motta playing inside the box in run support and Man coverage on the outside...

This is going to be a fun game to watch, I just hope our boys are physically on par... If Jones is numb or hobbled in this game, that gives Diaco a huge advantage inside which could open up an aggressive blitz campaign, knowing Nix & Te'o will win that battle. To be fair, Jones has never been beaten by a tandem since he took the field 49 starts ago. He is a technician and has the cajones to play at an all American level while hurt...however he hasn't seen 5/9

If your looking for a weakness on the OL, a senior that played GA with one leg, and has won every award in the books for last two years is not a good place to start.....Jones will be fine

The tale of this game will be depth....
