This guy must sit at home and dream up different ways to solidify his reputation as the bratty a$$hole that was "born on 3rd and thinks he hit a triple".

I was about to post the same thing. This is kind of unheard of really. Leave it to Kiffin though lol.

Haden is going to ride Kiffy until the scholarship limits are behind them. But I'd wager this stuff makes him cringe.

a guy who has a raw sewage treayment plant named after him. i for one hope lanie stays at sc, i dont want to have to play against sarkisian if i can play against kiffin.

That guy wouldn't know class even if it bit him in the... well you know.

agreed as it will be hard to get a solid candidate before sanctions are over

the good news is, this ought to create some interesting tension during the bowl game

I posted when he was hired that Kiffy is Haden's "fall guy" from the beginning. Hire someone who's familiar with the program, someone who everyone there knows and someone that is easy to let go when the sanctions are over. This stuff just makes it easier for old Pat when the time comes.

Nothing would surprise me with this guy. Truly "one of a kind."

Kiffin will be there for the length of the sanctions and then be unceremoniously dumped on his ass. Its time to have another lost decade for USC...

While I agree with the second part of this, Haden had absolutely nothing to do with Lane's hire to begin with.

Mike Garrett was the AD that picked Kiffin after a number of other candidates said no, and he was hired five months before the sanctions took hold.

Lane being hired also had nothing to do with the sanctions as Garrett arrogantly felt USC would be cleared or given just a minimal slap on the wrist. It wasn't even in Mike's train of thought to hire someone who would "get USC through" a rugh period. In fact, Garrett truly felt he was hiring the next Pete Carroll.

To say Garrett was schocked when the penalties were announced would be an understatement. Utimately it cost Mike his job, too.

Garrett "retired" and Pat was hired six months after Lane was brought on - shortly after the sanctions were announced - and the general feeling was it was bad news for Lane as Haden's hire was seen as an appeasement to the NCAA, and considering Lane's history of breaking rules he would be on thin ice with the notoriously straight-laced Haden.

However, Pat felt it would be a double whammy to the program to fire Lane WHILE dealing with the ramificantion of the sanctions.

So, he stuck with him.

It seemed to work out considering the recruiting was top notch and last year was a breakthrough season.

Coming into this year I don't think Pat had any idea he'd be contemplating any sort of change, and because of that I don't think he even had a list of possible replacements in place even on a "just-in-case" basis.

As a result, while he is displeased with how things have turned out this year - and wih Lane in particular - he also doesn't have a viable candidate to turn to if he let Lane go.

I expect all that to change moving forward, and I believe Lane is on very thin ice and I'm sure Pat has replacements in mind.

Agreed.

I think the list has expanded with each Kiffen "gaffe"

He apparently hasn't much faith from their fan base either, his apologists are now holding the pitchforks.

If the donors start bailing and 50,000 fans start showing up at the coliseum rather than 90,000 he'll be gone.

LA fans like high ceilings with no basements. They lose a couple next year and watch out.

MyFightingIrish, I love the pic of Kiffen but I wish it was with a USC shirt instead of Tenn. I kind of like Tenn, a little.

While I agree with the second part of this, Haden had absolutely nothing to do with Lane's hire to begin with.

Not true, Haden was on the board and I am sure had a very good idea that Garrett's time was short.

You're giving waaaayyy to much credit and power to Garrett. The board runs the show and employed Garrett. If you don't think members of the board knew some serious sanctions were coming, I've got land to sell you!

To say Garrett was schocked when the penalties were announced would be an understatement. Utimately it cost Mike his job, too.

Garrett got canned! There was no retirement about it. If Haden wanted to get rid of Lane when he was hired, he could have done so then or shortly after with some of the stupid things he's done. Haden isn't stupid and that just lends itself to the thought Haden did in fact have some say so in his hiring and that he's keeping him as the "fall guy".

So, he stuck with him.

The ONLY time anyone would have thought twice if Pat has canned Lane was right after his 10 win season. Anytime before or at this time and NO ONE would be shocked. In fact much of their fanbase are calling for it.

It seemed to work out considering the recruiting was top notch and last year was a breakthrough season.

Coming into this year I don't think Pat had any idea he'd be contemplating any sort of change, and because of that I don't think he even had a list of possible replacements in place even on a "just-in-case" basis.

This is correct IMO, he had no one else proven who wanted the job so he had someone who could recruit and be easily let go after the sanctions.

As a result, while he is displeased with how things have turned out this year - and wih Lane in particular - he also doesn't have a viable candidate to turn to if he let Lane go.

After the sanctions Pat will have plenty of qualified and willing candidates, after all, it is STILL USC.

I expect all that to change moving forward, and I believe Lane is on very thin ice and I'm sure Pat has replacements in mind.

Garrett sold the board on this being a bunch of stuff to do with nothing. He literally thought nothing severe would happen. He was an arrogant idiot in that regard, but they believe him. You have to understand - and right or wrong - Mike created a football situation that made millions upon millions for the university. He had some clout.

Not sure what you're getting at with Haden.

Pat was hired well after Lane was hired - he wasn't there to be on board with anything - and his hiring coincided with Garret's firing (i toally understand he was canned, that he didn't retire)

All I am saying is Pat was stuck with Lane, but he didn't want to compound the ramifications of the sanctions by also firing Lane.
