Notre Dame inked a deal with ESPN, do you think they would add a channel to make sure the Irish games were broadcast every week? Do you think the hate would end? Would we see a difference in the polls (not that it matters this year)?

Just a topic for fun speculation.

It would certainly behoove them to....Notre Dame's market size is like the entirety of the SEC, except National, highly educated, and more affluent

It'd be a deal similar to the Longhorn Network

we talking about women or men? As much I love ND, I think I would take SEC women over ND women. :-P

True dat, Bro!

If ESPN was on our side, we'd win a Heisman or two -- I know that much. By their coverage (if not literally), they pick who is going to win it every year anyway.

A lot of this article kind of foreshadows the thing Notre Dame needed to do to make the jump. and a lot of sounds pretty accurate. Oh, and Palmer's brother played at Notre Dame as you will read.

You will find articles and things from ESPN praising Notre Dame and talking about the good things. Why does everyone seem to point out when they take shots, but not when they say something good.

All I can think to say is, Just WOW!

It is interesting that most here seem to think ESPN can't stand ND. A lot of our fan base had the same perspective when we were down and on our way back up. Really since 2009 when we won it all, would I say the love fest ESPN has for Saban/Bama has been in full effect.

I guess what you have to remember is they are trying to get ratings so they will whore themselves however they deem appropriate. I have no doubt they will soon be trying to ride the ND gravy train.

So what you're really trying to say is that ND will win. ;)

Exactly. When we won in 2009 almost immediately you started noticing more coverage for Alabama on ESPN... What really stands out in my mind was the All-Access special from spring camp the following year. I don't think that had ever been done outside of the HBO series in the NFL. I think we were the first to give ESPN that level of access to a training camp, players and coaches. I also don't think they have done it exclusively with just one team since. Now they have All-Access type shows for a lot more teams / sports. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to watch one next year on our women's rowing team or Auburn's equestrian team.

All I can think to say is, Just WOW!

lol you think I just pulled that out of my ass?

I'm actually in advertising and one of our clients had us do a POV of the NBC Network, and that included info on Notre Dame Football programming

Generally speaking, people who watch Notre Dame Football have at least an undergrad degree (highly educated), very affluent (HHI of $100K+), and more National (as opposed to a regional audience) than any other College Football brand

Oh, I'm sure you are very informed... As well as I'm sure that any other fan base is uneducated, toothless hillbillies that are lucky to not droll on themselves.

My point, which I guess I should have stated, was that comments like that are exactly the reason your fan base has the stereotype that it does...

Also, I am certain ND's market size is not the size of the SEC combined... Not ALL people of Irish decent or Catholics like ND. I for one have never been a ND fan and am part of both cohorts.

Here are a few articles that you may find interest in. Certainly y'all have a very large and faithful fan base but to compare it to the size of the SEC and it's 14 teams is just silly...

http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releases/2012/08/college-footballs-top-25-highest-rated-markets-birmingham-oklahoma-city-columbus-top-three-in-2011/ - The problem here is it is based only on ESPN's coverage and does not include FOX or NBC.

Certainly not a direct comparison as not all SEC fans watched the game and I am sure most ND fans did, just as Bama & UGA fans watched the ND/USC game.

Just because I said that people who watch Notre Dame programming tend to have an undergraduate degree, and higher household income doesn't mean that I'm insinuating that the rest are toothless hillbillies.

Those numbers are actually from NBC's marketing group. Those are the buckets we advertisers put people in, and people who view ND football tend to have higher education and are more affluent. It's not insinuating anything about SEC country, it is what it is. Big advertisers love that demo, especially since it's National, and will spend a lot of money advertising in places that reach their target demo, given they have great ratings

And I'm not talking about fanbase, I'm talking about the ratings that ND pulls in (when they're good) throughout the entire season; it is greater than most of the SEC put together

I wasn't trying to insult anyone in the SEC country, I was saying advertisers will love the numbers ND is pulling, so it's in ESPN's best interest to jump on it once NBC's contract expires

In case you forgot (which sometimes you appear to have), this is a Notre Dame fan site. Don't feel obliged to defend the SEC so regularly and to analyze posts from crimson colored glasses.
