I read he is "75-25" going to the NFL, I keep asking myself, Why? Most websites I've read have him as the 12-15 rated back going in the 5-7th round. I wish he knew he could improve he draft stock dramatically if he came back, he is too talented for the 5th round

A minimum rookie salary next year I believe will be in the neighborhood of about $400,000. Much better than what he has now. And a long way to help his daughter. But players can be cut at anytime. So yes, maybe he could pick up draft stock by coming back. It's all gonna be what people advise him to do. People that know more and who are smarter than I.

The life of a running back is short, most are done by age 30-32

He'll have a degree and a daughter. I get it.

This is exactly what I think... what more can be asked of a guy than to accomplish what he came her to do, graduate. He has responsibly now and should make the most of his finite athletic career.

think shorter...

They come into the league 21-22 years old and the average career for a RB is around 4-5 years

I totally think Cierre should come back and upgrade his draft status but obviously understand that he needs to do what he needs to do. Personally, I really hope he comes back and dominates but I just don't see that the way they are recruiting the running back position right now.

agree and to go along with this im not sure his draft stock will rise all that much with one more season.

Right.

He probably also saw the Lattimore injury.

His shelf life is limited at RB. There going to be a lot of talent pushing him and I think he would defi itely make a team. He's a good back. You have to have some confidence in the new blood.

Fixed it for you.

There are only 13 NFL backs (at the start of the year anyway) older than 30. Only about half of those get a meaningful amount of carries.

Besides, what else can he really show scouts? He had 1,000+ yards last year. Been a solid back this year. There is 2+ years of tape out on him. He has nothing else to prove at this point. He isn't going to be an every down back in the NFL anyhow, get out while you are healthy and start making a paycheck.

I say if he's got his degree and will be drafted then more power to him. It has been obvious a lot of the year that he isn't ecstatic to be there (for one reason or another).

Agreed. Pack your bags Cierre and good luck.

I'll say it right here and right now. Cierre Wood should come back. He has work to do... without going into detail, his play, his behavior, and the comments made by Coach Kelly all point toward the need for him to come back and continue to grow as a student, player, leader, and man.

I will lay my reputation on the line as a coach, a teacher, an athlete, a Notre Dame graduate, a single father, and an old man with a lot of experience that coming back, regardless of what happens on the field, would be in this young man's best interest.

There's a real possibility that he could get passed in the depth chart or gets hurt. That would be millions down the drain.

Yeah... Yeah... But do you think he will?

How is he going to upgrade his draft status anymore by coming back a year? If so, won't be by much. Whose to say that Carlisle or Bryant wouldn't be better than him next year anyway? He's making the right decision to bolt now if he's sure he's gonna be drafted. Darron Thomas came out early and wasn't drafted at all and left Oregon without a degree. Terrible decision then. Just hope Cierre knows what he's doing, which I'm sure he does.

Because he has his degree (therefore securing the "40-year plan") and because even if he goes 5th - 7th, he'll still be making six figures. Hell, Fleming went 5th round last year and makes $390,000 -- and he blew out his knee in training camp.

There's really nothing left for him to do at ND, except make the team stronger next year. He has a daughter and will always be able to find gainful employment with his ND degree, but for now he should make money while he can.

Yeah... Yeah... But do you think he will?

Dude, can't you see I'm working on it!

think shorter...

I think it's less than that. The average span is however long it takes to get through that first pay raise level.. I think it's 3 years then the union requires your pay to increase by so much..

Most teams save on salary cap and go a different way.

It's obvious he got in Kelly's dog house. Maybe he doesn't want to put up with that next year and just move on. I'd love to have him back. He is an electric everydown back.

Millions? He's nowhere near million dollar value (salary) let alone signing bonus...
