Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the presser, just now, Coach Kelly announced that Zack met with him and revealed that he would not be seeking an NFL evaluation but wanted to come back next year.

I am assuming Coach Kelly also promised him he would be offered a 5th.

Cierre is also going to see what his draft status is before making a decision...good news!

Not totally unexpected but ABSOLUTELY fantastic---NIX & MARTIN--the start of another great season in 2013!----

That's HUUUUUUGE!!!

This may bode well for Chris Watt too just based on how tight that group of OL seems to be. We know we lose Golic and Cave, and that is a big and underappreciated loss; but if we keep Martin, Watt, and Lombard, then we have a very solid foundation to build upon. That will be key to the continued development of this offense and Golson.

Now we can truly evaluate next year. Things are looking very good for another run. Just think, if we can beat Alabama, we can go on a winning streak of epic proportions.

Nix tooo!!!

I must have been so busy getting this thread up first that I missed Nix. What exactly did Coach Kelly say about Nix?

Was just stated that Martin is coming back for a 5th, Nix will be back, and Cierre is awaiting his grade from the NFL before making a final decision.

Definitely see the idea, but do you want to split that left side tandem up is the biggest question? Or do you sandwich the newer guys between the vets?

LT - Z. Martin

LG - N. Martin

C - Watt

RG - Hanratty

RT - Lombard

Our offensive line has no depth for the BCS game. Any injuries would be tough to overcome

What are the chances Cierre comes back?

I think he originally stated 70/30 that he was leaving, but after he gets his draft grade, I would say probably 50/50. Just my opinion...

Losing Stanley and Hegarty is tough, but we still have Nick Martin, Conor Hanratty, and Bruce Heggie from the USC two-deep.

On the bright side, getting Zack to come back is huge for the very reason you bring up. Watt coming back, together with Christian, Nick, Conor, Bruce, and a healthy Ronnie and Matt: that will really set us up well with just a few questions and development needs -- at Center for example.

Then you throw in that very deep, talented Freshman class. Couple of those guys might earn some burn and serve as really good depth next season: I am thinking of Elmer, Montelus, and McGlinchey in particular.

There is a truism here that needs to be considered: whatever Cierre decides, to stay or to go -- that is what he should do in the best interest of the team. Much like a recruit: if we do our job of communicating ND's strengths, opportunities, and challenges; his decision ends up being very telling in terms of whether or not he belongs back for another season at Notre Dame. The first step in preparing for a successful 5th year is his mindset as he makes this decision.

If Cierre decides to accept the challenge of coming to fall camp well prepared physically and mentally to be an every back down and a leader on the team; if Cierre decides to work offseason to become a well rounded runner, blocker, and receiver; and if Cierre focuses on getting better at meeting his responsibilities as a teammate, as a student, and, last but not least, as a father... then Notre Dame will be blessed and ready to have him back as a contributor to 2013's quest for its second National Championship in a row.

Elbow surgery....

Also known as "preserve a 5th year" surgery.
