The lineman who took the cheap shot at the Georgia QB in the SEC Championship game will not be suspended for the NC game. I know you're all shocked.

Are you kidding??? Why would he be suspended? I mean really, the UGA QB wasn't defenseless, he was obviously almost at the point of tackle, he was only 10 yards away from the play and he saw the hit coming, he had at least 1/100th of a second after he saw the defender. It was clearly one of the best blocks of the day. So really?? There shouldn't have been any question on this one.

Right Tambo??

The look on Murray's face was hilarious.

In the refs defense he was only 4 yards away looking directly at the hit.

Reportedly, the SEC is actually considering implementing a program where conference quarterbacks receive one hit like that for every INT they throw. That would be some effective negative reinforcement right there, let me tell you.

Everett, are you watching? Our advice: do not throw an interception against Alabama.

Yeah, that look is priceless. Fortunately for him Bama had possession, so he was able to get off the field and change his panties.

The defender was just looking for a cheap shot, a simple shove would have put the QB on his a$$, no need for this hit, period.

Exactly...

Seriously, what do you want me to say? I think it was an unnecessary hit. Perhaps should have gotten a flag but to say that he was a QB at the time he got hit, that he was defenseless or not involved with the play is just not true.

It's football, it is a violent game, and the hit, though unnecessary was certainly not something worth suspending a player for a BCSNCG. He was disciplined in house and believe me that is not just lip service. He didn't just have to run some steps or extra sprints after practice. He is in the dog house and it would not surprise me one bit if Saban sat him for the first defensive series of the game. In spite of what you think CNS is not JUST about winning football games. Each of his players will tell you the impact he has had on them as they grow into manhood.

Exactly...

That'll learn him.....learn him reeeeal good.

A non-starter not playing the first series is punishment?

So Saban punishes 63 players every game. What a hardass.

I'm not saying it isn't a violent game. But this hit was uncalled for. Like I said, a simple shove would have put him on his can and took him completely out of the play, not that he was anywhere near the play to start.

Only players Saban will sit are the non-starters. He's not going to discipline players that the conference doesn't.

I stand corrected. Watching this clip, he clearly had 2 seconds before the hit, so he did see it coming. As a disclaimer, this clip is in slow motion.

To debunk your defense of the ref. I just looked at the game on youtube and they showed it from a wide angle, and the QB was minimum 8 yards as in lines on the field, but still another 4 to 5 yards to the side of the play. So, at least 8-10 yards away from the play and the player was in the process of being tackled. Murray wasn't making a true effort to get over to be a part of the play. He was in a slow jog.

If it were an Irish player laying a hit like that, I would still be saying it was a dirty play.

Why do you think Dial is not a starter? He is #3 on our DL chart.

Also, he does discipline players the conference does not... I can't recall the player right now but one of our back-up LB's RSFreshman, body slammed a player during mop up time and Saban disciplined him even though the league took no action... This is just one example over the years.

Cue my E*Trade baby shocked face...

Seriously though, I did not expect any action on it. I think its a non-issue, like parsing words in Presidential debates...just something to pass the time until the main event on the 7th...

I didn't think that hit deserved a suspension. Flag. Yes. It was a cheap shot but you can't start suspending players every time they take a cheap shot at someone otherwise players from every team would be suspended every game. I don't know if this player has a history of dirty plays but that would be the only reason he should be suspended.

But, the NCAA can say the care about player safety?? And reducing concussions?? And move KO's & TB's up 5 yards to prevent concussions??

Seems hypocritical to me....

helmet to helmet... should have been a flag, this is the SEC, what are we smoking, nothing is going to happen.

I was trying to be funny, saying the ref was only 4 yards away and looking directly at it.

This is most likely the Mississippi in me but I have no problem with the hit. If it were an o lineman nobody would care. Once the interception is thrown the quarterback is just like everybody else. Everybody knows if an interception is thrown downfield it is cherry picking time. Also, he is clearly jogging towards the play and the ball carrier was not yet tackled. If he doesn't want to get touched just go ahead and lay down on the turf or run out of bounds on the opposite sideline. I would be upset if I were a coach and he didn't lay him out.
