Been watching ESPN all morning and not ONE WORD of the HISTORY that was made last night. Not a single mention of the awards or Manti.

But there WAS an interview with "Johnny Rap Sheet". Go figure.

OK. There have been a million posts about how people don't like ESPN or think they hate Notre Dame (even though there was a two-hour love fest for Notre Dame last night).

Here's an idea. Stop watching. I mean, I love this board, but every thread seems to somehow move to how ESPN does this wrong or slights the Irish in some way. Why do you all care so much? It's like you guys think ESPN is the end-all media outlet that has the final say about every single thing in the world.

I am not a rule maker by any means, but can we just move on?

If you don't like a certain thread, stay the hell out of it. Don't read it. I, for one, am sick and tired of people trying to tell others what to post. Don't like it? Go elsewhere! Capice?

btw, it was a "lovefest" because it had to be, ESPN had no choice but to air the awards given.

That's quite a glaring omission for a sports only network. Odd to say the least. Agenda driven is more likely.

Bam!

I had this exact same argument in a thread about Greenberry and Shepard where people were bitching about NotreDameRoom (ironically) creating the thread. As far as I am concerned there is no place on a message board for posters to be telling other posters what topics are and are not worthy of discussion. When did the wall go back up????

I saw that thread and rolled my eyes at the 100th thread about those guys. But you didn't hear a peep from me. Live and let live. ;)

These are all good points you fellows bring up.

I wasn't clear enough in my first post.

My issue is not with the the thread at all. It's with the general tone and sentiment everyone has for a network that man on this board seem to despise.

My point was simply this: If everyone hates ESPN so much, why does everyone always talk about them? Everyone trashes them and say they are bias, but yet everyone is so offended by what they say or don't say. Just don't watch.

It's like telling a waiter at a restaurant you hate the food, you stand up telling everyone else in the restaurant how much you hate the food and how the cooks made it crappy because they knew you were coming to the restaurant to eat. And after all that, you sit down, eat the food, PAY and leave a generous tip.

And then ... you come back the next morning for breakfast.

That is because it is... when it comes to sports. ESPN has a monopoly on the major sports in America.

I like how people completely overlook (or ignore?) the fact that ESPN indeed IS the end all be all of sports. ESPN is almost identical in power to how MTV used to be back when they played music (80s and 90s). Just like how MTV could change "the scene" by adjusting their programming, ESPN can influence the masses by adjusting theirs.....seriously, before ESPN decided Texas Hold'Em was a sport, how many people here knew a single person that played poker regularly (or even knew what the hell Texas Hold'Em was).

Just like every other corporation on the planet, ESPN is in this business to make money. They make decisions every day based on fattening checkbooks and meeting financial goals. They are always going to focus on the things that make them richer and take focus away from the things that don't.

ESPN won't care about Manti's story until 25 years from now when they can make a 30 for 30 about him... I can hear the commercials now..

"What if I told you it took a Hawaiian to restore the Irish.. "

blah blah blah.. :puke:

I think people are just frustrated with ESPN when it comes to how they cover and report on ND and what some perceive to be inadequate/biased coverage.

Does this mean ESPN is complete crap that shoud be turned off? No. I'm sure those who don't like the networks coverage of ND like many other aspects of its programming. I'd analogize it to a restaurant that always does a crappy job on one of their dishes but still has other good ones to choose from.

If it makes you guys feel better, you could be stuck with the Canadian sports network TSN where live sports currently gets interrupted for NHL lockout news conferences, three quarters of sportscentre is dominated by hockey coverage when a season is actually going on, and curling and poker programming is far too frequent.

Many a day I would give my left nut to have ESPN...

ESPN shouldn't tell you how to think. And neither should MTV.

If you hate what the say, why do you watch? You can aways try other media sites on the internet. Try reading what beat reporters are saying about teams. The people the cover the squads and players intimately every day of the seasons. That's just my opinion. It's not fact, just how I see the situation my fellow domers.

Sure, there are other options on the internet, but last I checked, only ESPN carried the awards show. Only ESPN or their affiliates carry 31/33 bowl games. Only ESPN has daily coverage on television of nationwide football.

Could you scour the internet looking for and reading stuff on every team, not ESPN related? Sure.

However, if you want to watch college football on TV, your choices are pretty much ESPN with an occasional CBS/Fox/conference network game.

It isn't like people are choosing ESPN, ESPN is in a spot where you sort of have to choose them if you want to watch college football.

So let's say I want to boycott ESPN. Am I really going to not watch 31 bowl games, including the National Title Game Notre Dame is playing in? Of course not. What choice did I have if I wanted to watch Manti get all of his awards? I didn't have a choice.

I hardly ever watch SC unless it is College Gameday but even still, it is sad that they are so blind to the ND dominance lately. HE was just making a point that ND is getting the shaft from ESPN, which at this poit, is no surprise.

If you don't like people ranting about ESPN why read the thread? People come here to vent their agitation as much as celebrate the Irish, let them vent in peace.

Ok. U guys win. I'm bowing out of the ESPN bout, and their factual bias against ND ... Keep yelling at Palmer and Pollack through your TV ;)

And yes, they do show a lot of sports, but u can always watch on mute.

Well, censorship just doesn't go over big. Yell at the threads you don't like too.

I just think it is ironic you are expressing a negative opinion about people expressing negative opinions about ESPN in an open forum.

I guess you can always unplug your keyboard and just yell at Domer Domain through your monitor :noidea:

Just got done watching Manti on ESPN. He looks dog tired. Could this be a bad thing winning all these awards?
