To be honest I am quite sick of the amount of love the guy has gotten. Yes he is a good football player you can't take that away from him but people keep saying I can't believe what he did in the sec. Look at their schedule! Just take a look and you'll see how weak it was. He played alabama, lsu and florida that's about it. His more impressive games were against much weaker schools and he really played bad against LSU. I could go on about how Manti should win the heisman over him but I don't wanna get started.

Back to the topic, some might think I'm foolish to compare Golson and Manziel. For starters they play in completely different offenses. Golson is asked to be much more of a game manager where Manziel plays in an offense where the offense is built and called around him. Manziel is very improvisational and fast, makes many plays on his feet. For a young guy he takes care of the ball fairly well and has a good enough arm to get by. But I just watched his film for the second or third time and was more drawn towards how weak the schedule was. He's a good player no doubt, but he is getting way too much fame from this season. His o-line is great and he has a sensational freshman and Ryan Swopes who I think is going to be a huge steal in the second or third round.

Golson first off doesn't get the amount of passing plays as manziel and has missed some time. I can't say Golson is as fast as Manziel but he isn't far behind. I think he is also just as good as feeling the pressure and escaping it. I have never seen someone so light and swift footed as Everett. Golson No doubt about it has the stronger arm, also probably one of the strongest arms in the whole country. As well Golson is very good at taking care of the ball, the few picks he threw I see as growing pains that he'll overcome by next season. There isn't many things Golson does wrong, he's very accurate as well and lets remember he's the same age as Manziel.

I just found it odd after watching film on the guy who will probably win the heisman ( undeserved however), that I would no doubt in my mind still take Golson. I think Golson is better suited for our offense, but I'd still take him over Manziel in any offense. Anyone else feel the same when they watch Manziel?

I do agree with your assertion that he doesn't deserve the ball washing he has received in the Heisman push. However, I would take him over Golson in a New York minute. Pains me to say that.

Dude? You're nuts.

I'll chalk this up as unabashed love for the Irish...which is OK. However if you truly believe Gloson is better you need to seek help.

Go Irish!!!

Right now, I'd probably take Manziel. Moving forward, I might like Golson, I think he has more upside.

I think Manziel may have peaked. The SEc is going to start to catch on to that offense, he is losing two NFL caliber tackles, etc.

I think Golson will turn out to be a better passer down the road than Manziel, and is elusive enough to make that part close.

im with most of you guys here...ill take manziel at this point but once golson trims the rough edges around his game i would take him all day...

I think I agree here. Manziel is definitely the better QB (pains me too to say that). However, Golson had a GREAT year, not perfect, but he did well. He gave up the ball a few times by carrying loosely and threw a few pics, as was said growing pains.

Manziel could be another Duh'nard, he was given the same treatment as Johnny Football the first couple of years, but he peaked and came back to earth. It's very possible that Johnny has peaked as you have said.

With one more game and stiff competition this spring, there's no telling where Golson will be come game time with Temple. I believe he is definitely on the upswing and wouldn't trade him for anyone at that point.

GO IRISH!!!

I don't think Golson is better but I think he is closer than most people thin and alot of that has to do with the fact that I think Johnny is overrated simply cause he beat Bama. Take away the Bama win and no one has heard of Johnny Football. It will be interesting if Golson gets the same push when we beat Bama. :scared:

No chance.....he plays for Notre Dame......they're irrelevant!!!!

Manziel the football player > Golson the football player

Golson's arm >>>>>>>> Manziel's arm

The potential is there for Golson with that rocket arm. Manziel's passes remind of Tate Forcier. That being said, Manziel is just an amazing football player. It will be interesting to see where these guys stack up in 3 years.

EG5 is going to Miami.

JF is going to Arlington.

I'll stick with Golson.

I think Kelly is absolutely right in that we're only scratching the surface of what Everett Golson can bring to the grid iron.

I like Johny Football as much as the next guy, and he's had a wonderful year. I'll be curious to see where both of these guys are 2-3 years from now.

Call me a homer as much as you want but I'm just calling it as I see it. I've played qb my whole life and I know as good as anyone what a system does for a qb. You put Golson in that a&m offense and you can't say he doesn't have a year like that. We didn't get to play sam houston state, smu, south carolina state, louisiana tech, and the brutal half of the sec. For this offense Golson is the much better player, I don't think you can compare Manziels arm to Golsons. Both are accurate passers but as one poster said Manziel kind of reminds him of Forcier, that's a perfect assessment. Many of the throws Golson has made you wouldn't see Manziel able to make. Manziel is better at running and escapability but he also has more chances too and decides to more often as well. Golson is just fine as we've seen him run around, and moreso avoid pressure in the pocket and make a fine pass downfield.

Both guys had great teams around them and only one has an undefeated record. As a whole Manziel might be the better player at the moment but it will be obvious by the start of next year that Golson will be the better player. Already a much better passer with good enough mobility, the guy will only get better. As for those calling me crazy go take a look at the majority of his highlights then look at the team.

Maybe if Sumlin had pulled Manziel in those two losses TAMU would be in the title game with us and we could settle the issue mano a mano.

I disagree.....Golson doesn't just have "good enough mobility" he has GREAT mobillity. like someone pointed out earlier, I have NEVER seen a QB who is so light on his feet and instinctive in avoiding pressure

There was that play at the end of the first half vs. USC where he almost ran out the clock on accident. He was side-stepping USC D-Linemen like they were pop-warner kids

Never?:-?

RGIII? Vick in his prime?

Nope, those guys were fast definitely, but the way Golson avoids the rush, or cuts between the tackles, he can seriously cut and juke without effort and it almost looks like a video game...

It's the WAY he avoids the rush

Golson does have an upside...and it's huge!

But c'mon...if either one of the Heisman finalist were on the Irish this year they would be a 10 point favorite vs Bama.

Golson will close the gap but Johnny Football is the real deal.

Te'o's a finalist...

I agree, I'm sure I said that in the original post. The way he just bounces around like a ballerina out there. The way he avoided the pressure to throw that deep ball to brown, and exactly like how he bounces around to throw that td to riddick against pitt. Kid has some of the best feet for a qb I've ever seen and it helps him out big time. Those are a few instances but he's done it all year.

And the play against purdue where he hits Niklas, it looks so amazing to me watching stuff like that.
