South Florida is going to make a significant offer (5 years 12m+; Facilities commitment)... He's already met w/ Boston College, so there is some consideration on the part of Diaco to leave ND for a head coaching position.

Side stories:

... it would reunite him w/ Aaron Lynch and a fairly young, yet experienced depth chart. Not to mention crossover recruits between USF & ND like Tarean Folston, Tony Stevens and Taj Williams.

Add to that South Florida is located in the most talent rich part of the country, and not exactly the academic constraints of Notre Dame...could be the start of something really good down there.

It's sounding like Diaco is going to be rumored to every open coaching position this year. Good for him. Good for us in that it will allow us to attract top assistants. Bad for distracations right now, but I have confidence that Kelly can manage through it. If he leaves, I'd love to see him at USF or Wisconsin; I like both of those programs.

I am 110% confident that whatever happens, BK will have ZERO issue in filling his position with someone equally if not more qualified...

My only concern with his potential departure is which of the defensive recruits he has the greatest relationship with and who we might potentially lose should Bobby D bolt the stables...

Make no mistake about it... Diaco is the lead dog in the defensive turnaround and it starts with his recruiting

- Bennett Jackson, Prince Schembo, Kendall Moore

- Ishaq Williams, Aaron Lynch

- Jarron Jones, Elijah Shumate

- Alex Anzalone, Jon Montelus, Rashard Kinlaw

The immediate impact could mean Anzalone jumps ship (still smoke there) and a possible senior transfer of Kendall Moore who won't see the field at ND.

I think a bigger concern is will he coach in the game?

Kelly and Saban had differing opinions on the subject, Ironically it was Kelly suggesting his assistants wait until after the game to make any decisions

I think a bigger concern is will he coach in the game?

Isn't he a CO-DC?

I live in tOSU country AKA hate Notre Dame country. I'm on cloud 9 and I'm not letting decommits or coaching rumors kill my buzz.

This happens with elite programs.

Lets not forget Coach KELLY, not Diaco put this team and staff together. He yea and nay Diaco's ideas, and he's not going anywhere.

enjoy the ride

This could happen with or without Bob there...

Was just glad to see that Diaco isn't Smith's lead recruiter...

I'd love for Moore to see the field outside of mop up and special teams. he looks like a real gamer. And didn't he drop the hammer a year ago late in a game? Remember him lighting up a kid...

I hate you for ruining my lunch:(

We don't know what Diaco is really thinking. He certainly is garnering some nice offers already. Right now, though, all I care about is the title game. When he wants to take a top gig, he will. Starting to think he may bolt after this year.

I really wish ND would dust off the wallet and pay this guy what he deserves today and end this obvious distraction...

5/12 seems to be a very legit offer for someone with no major head coaching experience..

I'm gonna call BS.

+1 This is important prep time and this crap has been a distraction long enough. Pay the man, keep him happy and worry about the big game as well as recruiting.

South florida has already interviewed wesetern kentuckys--willie taggart--thought to be the top choice-- they will be interviewing Mike MacIntyre from san jose state---he has a nice resume and connections in florida---

also butch davis is on their list----have seen NOTHING at this point about Diaco interviewing there.

aloha's go irish!

Who says they haven't? Maybe he just wants to be a head coach. Maybe these are all practice interviews for future years.

I'm sure Bob is putting plenty of work in on Bama. Last I checked , Bama DC was interviewing with their biggest rival. This stuff happens.

In addition to MacIntyre interviewing with south florida--

Alvarez has taken CHRYST out of the equation, he said it wouldn't be right since he tried hard to get him the PITT job in the first place---alvarez has said there are ALOT of potential candidates---i think its very premature to even consider Diaco a prime candidate---i would wager HC experience will be a big factor once the interviews start up there

Bob Diaco = Assistant Head Coach, DC, LB's

Kerry Cooks = Co-DC

per UND.com

I would think "Assistant Head Coach" means they paid him some money (last year?)

The cleveland plain dealer floated the diaco name as a "possibility" since he didn't get an offer from BC---But ALVAREZ HAS SAID THAT HE WOULD PREFER HIRING A CURRENT HEAD COACH----going to be stiff competition for diaco at wisconsin---i wouldn't panic much at least until he gets an actual interview and makes the 3 man short list---

aloha's

I'm with the poster who mentioned this could be a distraction.. hopping on planes all over the country and prepping for interviews when he could be watching film of Bama and getting our game plan ready.

Seems a bit of a strange match, I figured if Diaco was to bolt it would likely be to a midwest or eastern school.

Coach, you've been right more than wrong so I'll roll with you here for a second but the offer doesn't make sense considering Diaco's negative experience factor combined with what remains on Holtz's buyout...just not sure the Bulls can raise that kind of cash short term. Further they need FL and that is Alford's territory and while Diaco visits to close a key recruit etc...just seems like a stretch. Won't shock me if you are correct but think of all the jobs mentioned, this seems to be the most unlikely. May be time for you to reference a source as you are close to putting the board into a panic if there is more reported!
