I swore I created this a long time ago... Anyway this is a name that could pop up late in the game if we miss on people like Folston, Bryant, etc...

Had a solid year this year and in October ND and Oregon were his top 2, FSU and Vandy also involved. He was visited by Booker this week. Could play O or D.

So was Anquan Boldin. Pretty sure Emmit Smith didn't light up his 40 time too.

The game is played without stopwatches.

I'm glad we're keeping his name on the burner. I feel confident in a number of our key remaining names, but if a surprise pops up with a Redfield or one of the remaining RB recruits, it's always good to have a "contingency" plan with the #'s crunch. I like this kid.

Announcing Jan. 28: Oregon, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Florida State

Any idea on who leads....and im sure the Irish aren't in play here....if so that would be SO under the radar

ND was in the top 2 at one point. Booker has kept in touch with him. ND is in play but he is a secondary option.

If it isn't Notre Dame, it *should* be Oregon.

I think he wants in, but he's playing it close to the vest. Greg Bryant did for a long time, and look how that turned out.

ND has actively recruited him throughout the process, including a visit in the last couple weeks. They've been honest about where he stands given our limited spots and we've consistently stayed in his top 2 with Oregon. Absolutely fantastic kid btw. His interviews are extremely impressive (Redfield is another who really jumps out with how well-spoken he is).

i'm wondering if there is any room for him at this point in time. of course, with january 28 just before NSD, it may sort itself out by then and there may be space for him if he wants to be irish.

I'm sure he is announcing on 1/28 to wait to see if there is room at the inn for him.

There might be space, might not.

Frankly, Redfield's recruitment is turning into a head spinner. Either he has loose lips, he suffers from a case of the Tuitts in not knowing how to say "no" to someone for fear of hurting their feelings, or he really is that confused and swayable every time he talks to a different recruiter. Even if he did pledge to the Irish, he's the type of kid that I'd be watching for his fax before I wrote his name down in pen rather than pencil.

And for that matter, Muhammad is a pretty cryptic cat. The tea leaves still seem to point to ND, but there's still an element of mystery to his recruitment. Visited Miami first, doesn't say a whole lot... I guess I'm saying it isn't quite a slam dunk yet

IF Redfield announces for the Trojans at his All-Star game, and IF we strike out on the Vanderdoeses and Bowers of the world, I think there's an excellent chance we'd take Williams in as an athlete and see where he fits best. Could make an impact at WR or safety if you ask me.

If Juwaan Williams is our standard for a consolation prize, I'll still be a very happy individual come signing day. Really like this kid and the head he's got on his shoulders. Even if he never starts, definitely the kind of guy you want in that locker room (i.e. Tyler Stockton). And in saying that, I think he's got a very good chance at seeing the field before his senior day if he inks with ND.

Remember when Luke Massa, Bruce H, Derek R, and the like were throw ins for the Irish? Now we are going against top ten programs to fill out our roster. Times have changed.

Are we looking at him for Safety?

He was initially being recruited just as a slot receiver, but recent discussions with the staff have opened the possibility of playing both sides of the ball. He'd prefer to play on offense, but it may not be a deal breaker to be brought in at DB - probably at safety.

WR:

Robinson (Outside - future TE?)

Hunter Jr (Inside - Outside?)

Fuller (Inside - DB?)

Onwalu (Inside - RB?)

DB:

Luke (CB)

Butler (CB)

Kinlaw (S - CB?)

Lots of scenarios that could play out, so it isn't farfetched to say that adding another skill guy is unnecessary.

Say a guy like Williams does come on board. Probably what happens is, one of Fuller/Williams ends up at DB and the other in the slot for 2013, while it's entirely possible that both could end up on defense by the time it's all over. Our secondary has four players that started out on offense (Collinsworth, Farley, Jackson, Russell); I'd be willing to bet that the staff is more likely to start guys out on offense then flip them over than the other way around.

The first domino that has to fall is Redfield. Still, a name I wouldn't sleep on or dismiss just because he has three stars next to his name. A definite fit, and the right kind of "problem" to have on your hands.

I think kids who are versatile is the life blood of great teams. The staff also seems to be able to groom them on the other side of the ball from what they played. I know we have a lot of fancy 5 stars we talk about but I would nopt be surprised if he ends up in this class and some of them do not.

Per ISD:

Juwaan Williams, ATH, 6-1, 180, Tucker High School, Tucker, GA not only has a list of favorites but has narrowed that list to three schools and Notre Dame is one of them. The 2013 standout plans to make a decision on January 28th.

“I’m down to three right now, Vanderbilt, Oregon and Notre Dame,” he stated.

Clemson and Florida State had been on Williams’ list of five but he cut them.

“I really didn’t feel too right about Clemson,” he said. “At Florida State, my recruiting coach Coach Dameyune Craig took a job at Auburn and I haven’t heard anything from them since his departure.”

And though Oregon Coach Chip Kelly left for the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles, Williams has kept them on his list, at least as long as the staff remains mostly intact.

Narrowing his list has helped Williams clarify his situation but has done little to make the process easier.

“It makes my job a little harder and it puts a little extra on me because it’s a three way tie among the three schools right now,” he explained. “You get everyone’s opinion on all three schools. You hear it every day, whether it’s from your peers, people on social media or blog sites. It just gives you more pros and cons to each school.”

Williams sees the strengths of each of his finalists.

“Vandy is SEC football, you can’t beat it,” he said. “It’s a great education. When you have the Vanderbilt education on your resume, you’re likely to get your foot in the door at any job you want.”

“Notre Dame is the same way. They didn’t finish the season the way they wanted, but they were fighting the whole year to get to the national championship and they made it there. They just couldn’t stop a good Alabama team at the time.”

“For Oregon, everyone talks about their contract with Nike and how they get all of the new Nike stuff every year, but for me, it’s the school’s education. My degree, if I go there, would probably be the hardest route to take just because that’s one of their best majors there. That was one of the good things I got from my visit there.”

Williams plans to major in either physical therapy or pre-med.

Williams took his final official visit, to Vanderbilt last weekend and now must sort through the schools to make his final decision. He’ll rely heavily on his parents in making that choice.

“I’ll talk with mom about the education part and dad about the football part and take them both into consideration and make the best decision possible for me and my future.”

Pretty sure he will end up at Vandy
