Since Riddell hasn't started making mini's the new ND helmets, I decided to make my own! Both were formerly browns helmets lol.

My first attempt came out ok. The new style helmets have a slight texture to them. I totally missed with the texture I used. I used a clear coat that totally flattened the gold.

My second attempt came out waaaaay better! I think I nailed the texture this time. It'll be all finished and put back together tomorrow. The gold is the exact same paint. The clear coat really ruined my original.

I'll accept janky haha. It was bad lighting too. I wasn't really happy with it so I went looking for changes. I sanded it down and I'm re-painting it.

I actually have an official helmet and I can tell you that you got the texture spot on!

great work!

Poor Thiazi must be livid at this project...

Must protect the helmet...

LOL!!!!!

Best post I've seen in a while..

The second one looks amazing!!! Do you think you could post the type of paint you used or a DIY how-to? I would love to try this if it's not too difficult.

Yeah, the 2nd one looks really great. Nice job and welcome to the board.

What's the story behind this?

Assuming it'd work on a full sized as well?

It may. I paid to much for my full sized helmet to try! If I could get my hands on a cheap one I'd try it for sure.

A dude who just joined (and subsequently got banned) was up in arms about a custom paint job forum asking for tips on doing just what you are... he was adamant we needed to protect the technique from sneaky thieves who were out to steal the magical painting secrets...

I have mine from the fantasy camp I did in 2005. Depending on level of difficulty, I would TOTALLY do this to that one. Looks like a damn Navy helmet sitting in my bookcase. :-?

Any unicorns or elves there?

No, the camp is in South Bend, not North Korea.

"According to an English language article from North Korea's state news agency, archeologists have "reconfirmed" that a lair in Pyongyang is that of a unicorn ridden by Tongmyong, who founded the real-life Koguryo Kingdom. This ancient Korean kingdom spanned the north and central Korean peninsula as well as northeast China and parts of southern Russia. It was founded sometime between the second century B.C. and the turn of the millennium.

The unicorn lair announcement comes nearly a year after the death of Kim Jong Il, who ruled North Korea from 1994 until his death on Dec. 17, 2011. Kim Jong Il was succeeded by his son, Kim Jong Eun, who is in his late 20s and lacks leadership experience, Lee said."
