@DMBerk: From what I've been told Notre Dame received a verbal pledge from 2014 OL Jimmy Byrne out of Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius today.

Nice! Love to see ND get back in play with the Ignatius and Ed kids on a regular basis...

Isn't St. Ignatius considered an OSU pipeline?

Man, if this is true, I love how much emphasis the staff is putting on both sides of the line.

Pretty much. I mean, we got Fox outta there but that's been it, basically. ND shoud always be a player with two top-tier catholic schools like Ed and Ignatius. We do decently with the Cinncy catholic schools, mind you...

Just wondering....when did Jay Hayes commit I was looking at the 2014 Rivals 250 and it says Justin Brent and Jay Hayes are committed...Greer Martini is not on the list...and this Jimmy Byrne is on there too

Just looked and sure enough...a commitment slipped by me...I'm losing it I guess

But anyway what a way to start the class....Hayes Brent and Byrne are 4 stars (at least)...BK is working his way towards a Long tenure

We do well with St iggys, a lot better than we do with the other Cleveland catholic power St Ed's. John Ryan and Robby Parris are Wildcats too

Yeah, I remembered them but that has been quite a few years now. Like I said, Fox was the most recent and that was 4 years ago...

St Vincent St Mary's has some nice players also

Man, I cannot think of a STVSTM player who went to ND since what? The 80's?

St Vincent had some really small players and good size ones that were only juniors. A few Linebackers had good size and I think are decently ranked for 2014.

24/7 composite rating puts him as 227th in nation and 9th ranked guard. OSU and MSU already offered. 6'4" 275

Thanks for pointing out Fox and those other guys. Didn't know they went there.

Also something of note -- none of the guys (Parris, Fox, Ryan) from Ignatius that committed to ND had OSU offers. Byrne does -- and he still chose the Irish. That's huge.

Lived in Cleveland for 10 years and could never figure out why we could not do better in strong catholic schools like Ignatius and St. Ed. For whatever reason it is OSU country and even Michigan seems to do better than ND. Not sure about the SVSM comment.... although Lebron was unstoppable as a wideout/te his freshman year. I digress... now is the time to get back in at those schools and develop a stronger connection. We are making inroads at key schools like Don Bosco, now is the time to add Ignatius and St. Ed's to the list.

Maybe that's because they aren't/weren't the highest caliber players... God love them, but they are average to below average for a perennial top ten team. This ND team over the next few years will pass over guys like that in a heartbeat, whereas our previous two staffs either had to take them at times (Weis) or simply took them because it was the easiest thing to do (Willingham).

still have visions of Ryan taking out weis on the sideline................

That was one of the few times someone he hit ever went down...

Agreed. Though I always thought highly of Fox as a recruit, somewhat irrationally, I admit. Glad he developed into a fine player for ND...

This ^^^^

And continue to do well at Cinncy catholic schools too. Many don't want to believe it in this day and age of all things Florida and Cali but Ohio is still a HUGE state for DI talent.

This would be a VERY solid pickup for the OL. Hopefully it becomes official soon, would love to have him play for ND.

If this is true, Welcome Mr. Byrne! Come see us often between now and your enrollment day.

Take BACK St. Iggy from OSU!

Take BACK Mater Dei from USC!

Take BACK Bosco Prep from...Rutgers?

These Catholic institutions should be ours for the taking. BK is showing no fear by invading people's "assumed" back yards. Balls out, Coach!
