And brain traumas are less of an issue in CFB? Does it really come down to age? Your thoughts please. We can travel to the moon but we can't build a helmet that prevents brain trauma.

They didn't land on the moon in a dixie cup either...

There is lots about brain trauma in CFB. It just so happens that Dr. Bennett Omalu started his research on a few former NFL brains so there's more talk about that. It's also a progression of symptoms based on a long career of head hits building up to cause CTE.

Owen Thomas, a U of Penn football player was one of the first to be diagnosed with it following a suicide.

Take the time to read the research being done at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at the Boston University School of Medicine; it's fascinating stuff...

If these guys are doing drugs and steroids too then that's not good either.

You will see the 'Bama player who hit Aaron Murray suspended for the BCS game probably because of a malicious hit.

And yes, we can travel to the moon. But if we were playing a football game inside the spaceship, someone would get a concussion. As crazy as it sounds, I have said there might be a day where tackle football is outlawed as we know it now (but only if congress gets involved).

IMO, it's the shear force of collisions. If you ran 17-20 mph into a brick wall, you'd probably come out of the collision fuzzy. It might be difficult to stop just because of the nature of the sport. Players have to play hard and fast to be successful.

Remember Bills' Mark Kelso wore this helmet for the Bills. I wonder if extra shells are made mandatory and are added to the game. I'm not sure of the exact specifications that would be needed. Players might look completely silly, but short of duct taping pillows to the players heads ....

I have clients - young healthy adults - who sustained traumatic brain injuries falling off chairs.

The brain is a fragile entity. Very very fragile...

And the helmets of today are fifty times more advanced than Kelso's rubber dome...

What I'm still trying to dig up is the results of the test done on our very own Irish players a season or two ago. Several players were testing special mouth guards...

I AM talking about immediate results. College kids seem to bounce back much faster. Whyhead hunting happens on every level. Did you see the shot Murray took on Saturday?

Oh, I think the recent NFL sensitivity is due to the lawsuit about consussions. They are much more quick to diagnose and pull the player more this year.

A lot has to do with individuas getting bigger, faster and stronger when they get to the NFL... but I also think the fact that NFL teams are constructed with ONLY the biggest, fastest and strongest has a lot to do with it too.

I dont believe Murray even had a concussion test after that hit. Does the Ncaa not want to see this issue come to the light of day? Or was the moment too big?

I don't believe that the NCAA has an institutionally mandated protocol for dealing with concussions, preferring instead to let each individual school develop their own procedures for diagnosis and treatment . . .

Come on phony you're living up to your name. Seriously any experts out there with insight. Thanks

I'd say 2 factors.. Speed and strength. Every player in the NFL is there because they are the best of the CFB players, all combined on one roster. Every time you get hit, you get hit HARD.

Great so they are stuck in the Dark Ages? Reassuring huh?

Yes and no.

A school like Notre Dame would be more financially well-equipped to implement an extensive (i.e. expensive) set of procedures handed down by the governing body than would a small D-III school . . .
