Any article you read will declare Manziel the Heisman front runner, many will say he is running away with it.

Maybe not so fast. A USA Today straw poll among actual voters puts the race at nearly a dead heat between Manziel and Te'o. Interesting one voter left Manziel off the ballot and two left Te'o off of theirs.

This article and another posted by 2lakes are were in the Manti wins Butkus thread.

Hopefully, winning the Butkus will have some impact.

Ahhh, what I'd I say last week? Said it was gonna be way closer than we have been lead to believe! ;-)

I am leaning towards this being a lot closer than most think. My main reasoning for thinking this way is because one of the guys is a freshman, and the other is a defensive player.....neither of which (freshman / defensive ONLY player) have ever won the award.

You have some guys voting Manti because he is not a freshman and some voting Johny Football because he is not a defensive player....then you have some voting for Klein because he is not a freshman or a defensive player.....and all of this leads to this race being a lot closer than some would lead you to believe (in my head anyway.....)

Hopefully, winning the Butkus will have some impact.

Seeing as the voting ends within the half hour...probably not.

Or how 30% of the vote was in prior to week 13...

What gets me is that I heard some voters voted weeks ago. How the hell can you cast your ballot and the season wasnt even over. Saturday night should be interesting for sure.

Maybe the early voters voted for Klein or Geno Smith and would have voted for Johnny Football had they waited.

It takes Johnny Lujack a week and a bit to walk to the mailbox...

If Te'o doesn't win, the award is a farce as far as I'm concerned. If he doesn't embody everything that that trophy stands for to a T, then the whole thing is just a complete joke. To the point that I won't even consider us having 7 winners as a distinguishing stat. It will be just another football award.

Sorry for the rant.

Don't shoot the messenger, but I've read in a couple places that voters are saying it's for the most outstanding college player, not the most outstanding feel good story...

My take is you have BOTH in Te'o.

Ten more minutes to cast your votes :)

Would having that ACC anchor help in situations like this?

Dan Patrick voted for Manti. So did Al Eshbach here in Oklahoma (that is a miracle). Eshbach likes to scream "Notre Dame Sucks" while on the air.

Go Manti!

Not surprised that it's close for aforementioned reasons.

I think it'd be a lot easier for some to vote for a defensive player than a freshman.

Hopefully Manti benefits from split offensive votes.
