If this article is correct, ND's payout for a BCS Bowl is $1.3M +$4.6M = $5.9M.

I know because we're in, our merchandise sales go way up, and maybe our NBC contract might have an increase in 2015, or get renegotiated, etc, but damn knowing that the bowl payout will be around $23M this year for the championship, we really seem to be getting screwed.

That's 5 minutes worth of google searches and reading.

There is ignorance and mistakes are made in every profession. There are lazy practitioners of journalism just like there are lazy teachers and police officers. In the media, it often has to do with the journalists not having a great deal of expertise in what they are covering. How many mainstream media members were engineers or politicians in their previous lives? How many writers played or coached football, basketball, wrestling, etc...? Now, you can still write an accurate and compelling piece about the NFL without having been an NFL All Pro QB; but a wide range of work experience above and beyond writing is, I believe, necessary to be a complete researcher and writer. Just like an engineer who has also worked in the field of politics or community development is a tremendous asset and has a great advantage over those who do not.

2Lakes, I think we are getting off topic a little. No doubt there are people that don't do their jobs as well as some would like, in any profession. And the media does make mistakes. Every person in every profession makes mistakes. It's just that the media's mistakes are out in front for everyone to see.

But the debate here is showing evidence where Notre Dame's BCS payout amount is being misconstrued by the media. That is all.

I agree. The whole long conversation about when/where/if the media misconstrues the payout is really off topic anyway. The topic is Notre Dame's payout, not who reports it correctly.

also a good point.

but someone said it was being misconstrued by the media. I just wanted to know where :)
