Ron Arp from the Butkus Foundation confirmed it for me a few minutes ago.

A release will be out shortly.

Congrats to Manti.

Well deserved!! Hope this is the first of many awards to come, culminating in the big one in New York this weekend.

Thanks for posting.

Alright, "room," we have sparred once or twice now, and it is time for you to come clean. Who are you?

Given a few revealing comments, I would say you make a living as a journalist, or at least get paid for it. I am also going to say that you cover sports, maybe even Notre Dame. Finally, I am going out on a limb and saying you are not Brian Hamilton, but I may be wrong about that one. I've also given up the suspicion that you are Colin's other DD character, but I wouldn't bet the house on that one either.

Again, who are you, and do you wish to speak to our leader?

PS: Congratulations and mele kalikimaka to Manti Te'o.

Congrats to Manti! He desreves it. I also saw that JAylon Smith won the HS Butkus award. You couldn't ask for a better person to try to fill Manti's shoes at ND.

Continuity and/or serendipity:

* 4 years ago future ND LB Manti Te'o receives the inaugural HS edition of the award,

* 4 years later ND LB Manti Te'o receives the college edition, and

* LB and ND commit Jaylon Smith now receives the HS award.

This post is not about me. It's about praising and congratulating present and future ND linebackers.

Really?!? My bad, officer.

This whole forum is for that purpose, more or less. Take out the word "linebacker" and insert "team," of course.

It's never stopped us before. ;)

It looks official!

It's on the website for the Butkus Award, under "News."

Manti Te’o of Notre Dame Wins 28th Collegiate Butkus Award®

Strangely, the press release is in MS Word. Don't know why they didn't .pdf it. Perhaps they want everyone to be able to insert their own names?
