Kelly is absolutely the last person who would not allow a coach to interview for a head coaching position while his team is waiting to go to a BCS bowl.

Just sayin' :-P

We'll see. College ball is a very emotional game, hence the reason sometimes a team plays possessed, and other times they play lackluster, so playing less hard, whether a cognitive choice or not, is a reality. Hopefully, the caliber of the game will overshadow everything else for the players, but it is a distraction. No one can deny that, and that's really all I'm saying.

It's a distraction. Pure and simple, and it should not be occurring now. I'm not against him leaving to better his life and career, but the timing is awful.
Agreed. Pretty surprised about the timing really. We need him to stay. Whatever it takes. He's a great defensive coordinator and recruiter. His recruitment of Ishaq is legendary.

Exactly!!!!!!!

HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the 2011 Alabama NC season, Jim McElwain, OC and QB coach, left to take the HC position at Colorado State. Despite the fact that AL was to play for the NC in January, sources revealed on Dec 12 that he had accepted the job with the Rams.

McElwain coached that last game for AL, which they lost 6-9.

This is not unprecedented. Teams are looking hard at the Tide's Kirby Smart too, folks.

Hey, there was a good article written by a fellow at DomerDomain about this...

I'm not worried and here is why.

We're gonna have a ton of qualified defensive minds knocking down our door knowing the kind of talent they'll have to work with.

We'll be fine.

This is the natural inevitability of success.

I just hope they would go with another young, bright coach and not a Jon Tenuta like "defensive mind" because literally, his mind did not matter. Kelly is a good staffing guy, so I hope he continues to remember these are 18-22 year olds, not pros.

Totally agree. Our defense should be scouting the hell out of Alabama, not worrying about whether or not their coach, who happens to be one of the best defensive minds in the nation, will be with them for the big game or not.

I'm all for him moving onwards and upwards, but right before the first ND championship berth in 25 f**king years?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

I think it will be a promotion from within. Cooks is co-defensive coordinator.

Who said he won't be coaching in the game? It sucks that he might leave but this is what happens when your a championship team. I don't think it's a coincidence that we never had this problem before.

Exactly!!!!!!!

Yeah, and BTW, how did Cincinnati do in their bowl game after the Kelly announcement?

...and THAT is the point. D I S T R A C T I O N

agreed but he would still hafta hire a linebackers coach and anyone bob would take with him, say an Elliot. Jaylon Smith, Anzalone, et al counted on BOB as their position coach.. targets Muhammad, Not a good year to lose your LB coach. i trust Kelly and am not trying to alarm anyone. This would just hurt.

This is the way it is in college football. Unfortunately when you are good this is what happens. Alabama, Texas, and Florida lose coaches each and every year. I wish Coach Diaco all the success in the world, hopefully Big Jack sweeps in with a ton of $$$.

Whether he coaches or not, a distraction is still a distraction during a time when the entire team, coaches, etc. should have their focus entirely on the game.

I guess the silver lining is that we'd be the underdogs more so than we already are. Seems to be a good place for us this year.

If we're looking for replacements...Monty Kiffin is available...

:p

Cincy was gonna get curb stomped in that game regardless of BK being there or not...
