hawaiiirish
In a phone interview on college football daily -( CFB)---Steele said in his opinion USC has very good chances against us---He says Oklahoma was the only good passing team we played and they got 330 yards or so passing---He says Wittek is tall and strong armed and that with LEE & WOODS he expects him to have a very good day. That view befuddles me a little---yes anything is possible as we all have seen , afterall us being #1 proves anything is possible--- Nonetheless you have a newbie QB with no game experience at all--6 lousy passes---going up against the #1 scoring defense and perhaps the BEST FRONT SEVEN IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL---and Steele expects a " A Very Good day from Wittek"----is that just USC mystique expecting magic from any player they put at the QB spot?--is it me underestimating how a top HS QB can come in cold turkey and play great against a TOP DEFENSE?------it all seems somewhat counterintuitive to me---but then i don't know much about Wittek--- My expectations is that he will struggle --that he will find our defense confusing and without alot of mobility will find it hard to escape Tuitt Shembo & co.---that seems like a fair assessment but then so many give USC that Phil Steele benifit of the doubt---who knows aloha's go irish! ScooterIrish
Oklahoma was the only good passing them we have faced? How many times have we heard: "Yeah, well ND hasn't faced a [insert offense/defense] like [insert team] yet"? Didn't this guy have USC and Oklahoma undefeated this year? Wisconsin going 11-1? The way he has predicted lately, especially with ND, I like the opposite of what this clown says.
WilhelmD
We were discussing this very issue at lunch today - how everyone continues to denigrate the Irish team and their accomplishments to date and how the next one will be their last and we will all find out the Emporer is naked . . . what we concluded is that the sports MEDIA needs us to lose, so they are trying to will it into being with their press coverage. Why do they need us to lose? WTF will they write about for the next four weeks until the bowls are announced and play begins? If we lose, they can start the rattletrap discussions about who should be moving into which position to play in the NC game, etc etc etc. and fill many column inches of prattle for two full weeks at least . . . If we win, their horizons for possible stories is likely relegated to whether our opponent will be Alabama or Georgia, should Manti win the Heisman and whether Rick Reilly is relevant . . . haters gonna hate . . . corysold
And maybe that was part of the plan? It did take Jones 54 throws or do to get those yards. Some "computer guys" can only look at numbers, don't care how a player got there.

piratey
Phil Steele said Oklahoma would beat us 31-13.

dsnack34
I fully expect Diaco to throw in some stunts and plays that we have not done this year to throw the kid off. I don't care where you are from, you aren't going to come in without ever playing at college speed and go against the #1 defense in the country and have a field day. THe guys smell blood and they will be allover that line collapsing the pocket. I am calling for 5 sacks and 3 INT's. That is the kind of day he will have. And if we wanna really delve into numbers, only 4 passes acquired more than 14 yards...
dangeruss
i actuall think phil steele is right about this. yes he's getting his first real game action and yes he'll probably make some rookie mistakes but i do feel he is the real deal. usc has a real good running attack with red and mcniel and if wittek gets protection from his OL then i can very easily see him carving up ND secondary. when OU was running their fast pace offense against ND they went right down the field with almost zero resistance from NDs so called #1 defense. i expect the very same thing from USC. dangeruss
i do know one thing is for certain, ND must get pressure on the QB all game long. don't make it easy for him to locate woods and lee. also ND must do a much better job of covering RBs out of the backfield. That's how many yards Oklahoma gained against us. That would be their lowest total of the season. They averaged 504ypg on the season. Landry Jones had a passer rating of 123.34, his worst of the season, he averaged 151.57. We conceded the short pass to shut down the long pass and the run. Against good offenses you can't just say, "we'll shut everything down." Are Stanford fans lamenting about how they gave up 400yds of offense to Oregon? No. They were pumped because they only let Oregon in the end zone twice.
ColinKSU
I mean, he definitely could. I don't see anything he said being that crazy pants. I'm absolutely terrified of this game, personally. I don't know if I'd even predict a ND victory.

How about you watch this and get back to me: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_P1rcOAwEA[/ame] Sorry, as long as Manti Te'o is on this football team, I do not see us losing. Not to a team that leads the country in penalties. Not to a team that has no leadership. Not to a team that has an incompetent coaching staff. Not to a team that is 115th in the nation in turnovers lost. Not to a team without their starting QB. Not to a team who's leading running back is still not healthy and has touched the ball 3 times in the last 2 weeks.
