Te'o for heisman?

In my opinion Manti Te'o is definitely the most outstanding player in college football. However, the heisman voters have a strong bias toward offensive players. I'm only 14 but Manti Te'o is by far my favorite Irish player I've ever watched. If ND beats USC cleanly and Te'o has another strong game, realisticly what are the chances of Manti beating out Johnny Manziel.

Sadly, I think they are slim. The fact 30% of votes were already cast bodes poorly for Manti, since very few will be for him at this point.

I think Manti peaked too early. He hasn't hit ten tackles since Oklahoma, which his sort of a magic number.(Think 100yds rushing)

Welcome Irishkid!!

There's not much chance that Manti will win the Heisman sadly BUT he'll win many more awards. Who knows though, when it comes to this team and Manti, I truly believe there's a bigger hand in all of this and Manti may be blessed as special so I will not be surprised if he's the Heisman winner! I'm 46, and between you and I, Manti is my favorite player of all time as well! :thumb:

And to all you other members out there. THIS is why I care so much about keeping this site clean of cursing and childish fighting. There ARE intelligent kids reading these boards! :mod:

i'm not saying that manti will win the heisman or that he deserves to although he is in the discussion for a reason. with the current field no one really stands out anymore.

geno smith was out weeks ago. klein and his 3 interceptions probably destroyed his chance. a.j. mccarron did not look good against lsu (except for the last drive) or against texas a&m. oregon's candidates took a significant hit with their loss to stanford and may not help themselves this week against oregon state. manziel has put up impressive numbers and deserves to be in the consideration. without him, they would be like missouri's entrance into the sec.

if manti has a big game against usc, why not him. who else stands out so much better?

Welcome kid89. I think you're right. Since most Heisman candidates have dropped off for one reason or another and to think that Manti will probably get beat by a RS FR with one game in the spotlight, really shows what kind of award it is.

No worries, Manti will get enough awards.

It does irritate me that they are almost fabricating Heisman candidates now to be front runners since K State lost and Oregon lost. You would think Manti would just slide up the list after that.

No doubt that Johnny Football (or whatever they are calling him) is talented, but how could you pass up the guy that embodies what college football is all about?

I think Manti will lead for the Heisman after this week. Johnny football plays another crap team that no one cares about so his stats won't matter. Manti plays prime time against USC to move his team into the NC game. If he has a solid game and ND wins, Manti will lead going into the last couple weeks. On top of that they won't give the Heisman to a Freshman.

That said I think Alabama will run the table and AJ McCarron will move into first place and take the Heisman. Momentum will favor the QB who "LEADS HIS TEAM BACK FROM THE BLACK HOLE"

My 2 cents, and i'm putting IFs everywhere cause i don't wanna jinx anything, so here goes:

IF we beat USC and Te'o has a strong game (why shouldn't he?)

AND

IF we win the NC game AND Te'o makes a defining play (INT/Fumble recovery/etc which leads to winning score)

THEN, the Heisman is HIS

Take one IF out , chances become slim

Take 2 IFs out, no chance at all

championship game has no bearing on heisman as it will be awarded early december.

The Heisman awarded before the NC game, so that won't help us. However, I think if he has a blow-up game against USC, which is a very big possibility, he could get back in the Discussion. The candidates considered front-runners have been shifting rapidly - there is no reason to think anyone has it locked up. Manti has the perfect stage to get back in this - a high profile game that will draw a huge viewership with the highest stakes possible on the line.

Yup, he needs an epic performance Saturday night in the national spotlight to get a chance. He'll be at the ceremony regardless but Saturday night is key...

agreed. he'll be in nyc for sure. any chance to win would have to be an epic.

unfortunately, i think kwillcoates may have nailed it with mccarran sneaking back in by getting bama to the championship.

The BSPN machine wil also continue to push an SEC candidate whenever plausible ...

When Bama fell to TAMU... who rises --> Johnny Football. If Bama runs the table to a NCS, McCarron will be on the short list.

Also, all voters in Kudzustan (deep South) will take guidance from the unholy Oracle of Bristol... and many past winners (QBs) will have a natural hatred of LBs...

The only way this turns around is if the Sports Illustrated and Pat Fordes and Yahoo sports people keep pushing the story that Manti represents what college football should be about... and he is undoubtedly the best player on ND... he makes the whole team better... he is an outstanding player and leader.

Teo needs another INT or 2 in the SC game and maybe one returned for a TD to have a chance. He will get a invite at this point and be in the top 5, a Def player being in the top 5 is almost as good as a win imo.

Teo is my favorite ND football player of all time because of who he is off the field more than who he was on the field. And that's with 20+ years of ND football under my belt.

If this award goes to anyone but Te'o it will be a travesty. McCarron leading his team back from the black hole after a close loss to A&M? How about Manti leading his team back from as black hole of a 3&9 season. Or a demoralizing loss at SC? He has lead a team back from the brink.

McCarron single handedly cost Alabama the A&M game. He threw the end zone pick and that was it. Remember the Pitt game? Ev threw a pick, the D got it back and gave him a shot and he got it done. That is what a good QB does.

McCarron had a chance to win the game for his team and he blew it. Golson has as much of a reason to be in the Heisman hunt that Manziel. Ok, so maybe that is not entirely true but still. Speak out people, a freshman getting this award has NEVER happened. The idea that they could give it to him is ridiculous.
