OklahomaIrish
It's time to focus on the one last remaining roadblock to the national title game in Miami. USC is not to be taken for granted. Remember last year we thought we were going to kick them and they came into our house and kicked us. We can't let this happen. What do we know about USC? Barkley may be out of this game. That is enormous but they still have the best receiving corp in the country and their backup quarterbacks are extremely elite. But I have to admit, when I saw Barkley with his arm in a sling I had to wonder are we really a team of destiny. What if Pitt had hit that field goal? USC scored 28 points on UCLA. Are we a better defense then UCLA?? Maybe they don't have anything to play for. Kiffen will get a pass since Barkley is out. They have no national title, no conference title, but we are Notre Dame. When did another team not get sky high to beat us. This could salvage their season. We must protect the ball and take care of business. We need to score early and take control of this game. How good are they on defense? I saw part of the UCLA game and they just didn't look dominating as in years past. Can Cierre have a big day? What did you guys think of that dropped pass by Chris Brown yesterday against Wake Forrest? I was shocked. He didn't even get his hands on it. I'm going to study his high school tapes and note his hands. I know we will be favored against USC, but remember BC in 93?? Let's focus on this enemy and give them all we have. Hopefully the offensive line can take this game over like they did against Florida State in 93. Go Irish!
nd1989
It will be a tough game. This will be their bowl game. they still have really good players at every position. Watch out for a focused USC!
smaster
I'm still wondering if Kiffin will be watching from the sidelines or on TV.
OKCIrish99
Going to be a great game to end an amazing season. I like the matchup with our dline v. their oline and our defense overall. Going to be sweet.
OklahomaIrish
I'm still wondering if Kiffin will be watching from the sidelines or on TV. Apparently Kiffen has been told that he is coming back next year regardless of what happens. He is a great great recruiter, but the wheels are starting to come off the bus. Next year they don't have Barkley and their numbers will be down. I'm hoping some of their best players will bolt for the NFL early. Next year they have to come to our house and our offense will be veteran. Did they take any more injuries yesterday? I think we came through unscathed. smaster
Apparently Kiffen has been told that he is coming back next year regardless of what happens. HOORAY! That news is almost as sweet as "ND is #1"! This just goes to show what I thought the moment they hired him: he's simply the cannon fodder while SC weathers the probation storm. A year from now, that will nearly all be behind the Trojans and they'll hire a real coach. The residual mess will remain for a while, but we'd better take advantage while the gettin's good. CharlestonDomer
On a side note: Woke up this morning and told my son (3 years old) "the Irish are #1", he responded by saying "Touchdown Jesus". This is awesome. The Irish need to come out of the gate against USC the same way they did against WAKE. If they can put some serious points up early, I think USC might pack it in and turn on one another. Barkley being out is huge, but it’s not an automatic win. Like Oklahoma said, USC has owned us as of late. I am happy the Irish are #1, but a part of me hoped they would be #2 to put the pressure on someone else going into the last game of the season. I do think Kelly will keep the players focused and ready to go. And yes, its great to be #1.
smaster
I'd rather Barkley play. First and foremost, I don't want anyone hurt. Second, I think we can beat SC at full-strength. Third, I'm already dreading excuses from SC (and even some ND) fans that we only beat the Trojans when he's on the sidelines.

The hard facts are they have lost 4 games and will fall out of the top 25. Will all 22 starters for USC give it their best shot?? I don't know, but until we beat them I will be taking this game very seriously. Kiffin was asked directly if he had to beat ND to save his job and he replied, that he didn't feel that way and that comes directly from the top. If they fired Kiffin now what would that do to this recruiting class? They have more 5 star guys then anybody. It's not even close. Maybe just maybe we could go after a couple of them. CharlestonDomer
I don't think that they will fire Kiffin yet, but I do think they might make him fire his Daddy. That might lead to Lane's exit. What a piece of crap this guy is.

They are not a laughing stock by any means. Most of us know that our Irish have to grind out week2week. Never look ahead, ESPECIALLY in LA

Ordinarily I would agree with you but at this point, even if ND were playing the little sisters of the poor next weekend, so long as they win, they'll be in the title game. I'll take any advantage they can possibly get right now. Sucks he got hurt though. I hope it doesn't impact his NFL career - at least the two years he'll start before teams figure out the backup is better lol palmer/leinart/sanchez. Any ND fan who says shit like that needs to be slapped (or punched depending on how much conviction they had when saying it) and have their ND fancard revoked. People who say that (ND fan or not) are not to be taken seriously. The ONLY thing that matters is winning and getting to the Title Game, the bragging rights will be made there. ND has a backup QB who can win big games. Why can't USC do the same? Screw the excuses, beat SC!
coltssb
This is what kinda worries me about this game. Since they have nothing to play for Kiffin will be even more, do I say, adventous. Meaning, they will not punt the whole game. Video game crap. Lee will be at runningback, WR and corner, and QB! Play calling will be unusual. They will blitz all most every down. Zone, corner, allout you name it. Nothing to lose and everything to destroy. It's a nasty combination.
irishwavend
Does anybody know anything about Max Wittek? And for the "I'd rather play with Barkley" people, I ask, are you stupid? We only need to win. It doesn't f'ing matter. Me? I wish our last game was Wake Forest or Army. Nothing can stop us from going to the national title except losing the last game. Why the hell would you make the path harder? Is it because of some sense of misplaced pride? Don't be stupid. We just want to win. It's going to be tough enough with those receivers. Fortunately, USC can't stop the run for sh*t, so that's a good thing. We can control the game so long as we don't fall too far behind. NDhoosier
Max Wittek is a lot like Gunner Kiel... big strong kid who can throw a mile, but he isnt as mobile as Kiel is. You might say to yourself, "uh-oh, another stud QB for U$C." Which is true, but he has a total of 6 passing attempts in his college career. The guy has no valuable experience. Let me ask you this question. Would you trust Gunner Kiel to face the ND defense in a pivotal game RIGHT NOW? I wouldnt, Kiel and Wittek are physically gifted, but so was Dayne Crist and even if they are not busts like Crist was, they are both equally inexperienced and they have no shot of being great against the #1 scoring defense on their very first start in college football. I say we blitz substantially more. I like it when Manti comes, ask Landry Jones about that!! If the kid is less likely to burn the blitzer and isn't too mobile, let's go get him. A sack should end a drive. I imagine Diaco will play conservative, but just a couple more blitzes. Don't let the recievers get behind us, control the gaps and stop the running game, tighten up in the red zone and don't give up any touchdowns. Couldnt agree more, and yes they cant stop the run control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and we win the game. Its no question that their advantage is in their passing game vs our pass defense and now even that gap has been closed with this injury
