ColinKSU 18
I'd say it's still a long shot but the chances just got a lot better. If Oregon loses too then that would improve them even more. It doesn't help that 30% of the voters already sent in their ballots for an Oregon player or Klein.

Irish Chris 79
Sadly, I already heard people say it is Manziel's to lose. Ridiculous. It should be all Te'o. Time to beat SC and head to Miami. If you compare Klein's stats to Manziel's, Manziel's are much more impressive. Klein was just the favorite because he had the best stats of all the undefeated team's QBs. Now that KState is done Manziel will no doubt be the frontrunner IMO. Teo needs a dominant performance against sc to have a chance. Something like 12 tackles, a few for loss, at least a pick or fumble recovery or two, and lastly the ever-elusive defensive TD.
FLO31 0
Sadly, now everyone keeps saying its Manziel's award now.. i like Manziel and he is exciting to watch.. but at this point in the season.. no one deserves it more than Manti.. hawaiiirish 62
Manziel has some great stats--- BUT__he is only a freshman with no body of work on a two loss team--- Teo--Is not only the best defensive player in the country---he is the captain leading an undefeated irish team--with the #1 defense in the country toward a national titile. Teo will be a first team AA---and will be a top ten NFL pick--- Teo's on & off field actions seperate him into a special category of player in todays college football landscape--- Given the other potential candidates now, it seems a much tougher decision for voters now to pass by Manti the "great" ---the student athlete that came back rather then cash in---for an exciting FRESHMAN on a pretty good team. Manti ABSOLUTELY GOT TO NEW YORK TODAY---AND HIS CHANCES TO WIN IT HAVE JUMPED TO AN ACTUAL REALISTIC LEVEL! aloha's

It would cause the award to be completely devalued. I just hope Manti has a good week next week and we can get the award where it belongs. Lord have mercy if it goes to Manziel. KamaraPolice 0
Ha!! Here's another trivia: who is the only lineman to ever win the heisman? It's kind of a trick question I dont know - but i remember when people made a case that Orlando Pace at The Ohio State University should win the heisman. So my tricked answer - no lineman has ever one it. unless someone played multiple positions. I agree with the poster though that said if Manti does not win it, the award will be tarnished. I guess Braxton Miller becomes the dark horse candidate, but i dont get the big deal about johnny football. he works within the confines of his offense. Now all of a sudden Marquise Lee is a candidate - doesn't Lane Kiffin shamelessly selling Barkley preclude Lee from discussion at this point? Since Manti won't win the Heisman, I think it's time to start handing out the Manti Trophy, because the man deserves his own award.

The typical SEC mind is inbred and syphilitic, so since Alabama could beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, using simple transitive property, Johnny Football could throw 300 yards against the Bears Defense. nd1989 216
I think Manti deserves it. It's more than just stats, it's also about leadership on the field and off the field. Knowing that the other seniors have faltered, I think Manti should be right in the mix. you never know!
smaster 5
I think Manti deserves it. It's more than just stats, it's also about leadership on the field and off the field. Knowing that the other seniors have faltered, I think Manti should be right in the mix. you never know! Totally agree with this, though again it will require a fantastic showing in L.A. I've never agreed with the modern-day media sentiment that the Heisman goes to "the best player on the best team", but if we win next weekend, it's time to call the media's bluff. Will they be exposed for their double-standard the way they were in the 1993 National Championship vote, or will they stick to the same Heisman standard they've set over the past couple decades? We shall see. All this said, I think Manti would be the first to declare that he would prefer a national title over an individual trophy (most Heisman winners have said the same), but I understand that's not the point here -- why not have both if both are deserved? Go Irish and Go Manti!!!

Jackie Chiles 0
Manti will not win the heisman although he is very deserving and you could certainly make a strong case for him being the best player in the country. However IMHO the heisman trophy has become a joke, the award is a QB trophy. The award goes to the QB with the best stats not even the best QB in the country necessarily. According to the media the award was Klein's to lose with Manti considered to be 2nd or 3rd in the running, after last night Klein seems to have lost the award and instead of Manti being a stronger candidate now it's Manziel and Miller suddeenly being mentioned as guys that are favorites. I could care less which QB they give the trophy to, Manti does not need a trophy to validate his greatness on the football field. It's sad what the heisman trophy has become, it's sad the best player in college football doesn't win the award regardless of position. In theory the award should go to a defensive player 50% of the the time and until that happens(which will be never) the award has little validity to me. No freshman has ever won the award. There is a precident for Manti winning, on account of Woodson (Kick returns excluded) but a freshman over a senior linebacker. Again, this would so tarnish the award that it would be completely valueless.

False. Leon Hart is the only lineman to win the Heisman as a TE for Notre Dame. Told you this was a trick question...some don't think TEs are really lineman but officially they are. As far as Woodson playing offense and returning kicks, that is correct. However his official position was CB, and played the entire game at that position. He only played offense on a few plays and is officially recognized as the only defensive player to win the Heisman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisman_Trophy "Charles Woodson of the University of Michigan is the only primarily defensive player to win the award, beating out Heisman-favorite Peyton Manning, a quarterback from the University of Tennessee, in 1997. He was a standout cornerback, but also occasionally played as a wide receiver and punt returner."
