bklyn_irish
was just reading brian hamilton's article about tyler eifert's draft stock and i realized that for the second year in a row we'll have 2 first round picks. when's the last time that happened? smaster
Most likely in the Holtz years. Was it the '93 draft when 6-7 Irish players went in the first round? And (IMO) we still won the national championship the next season!
SDIrishFan
I'd be a little surprised if Eifert was taken in the first round. I think he's the top TE in the class, but like Rudolph who went in the second round, just not sure TE, unless they are truly special, will go in the first round. However, there has been an emergence of lots of TE's, especially pass-catching ones in the No Fun League, so who knows. Would just be surprised. We had 6 go in the first TWO rounds in 93. Thanks, Piratey.

A few people did. But like you said, it's all based on need and value. I'm by no means a draft expert and hardly watch the NFL, but it doesn't seem like a high priority is placed on TE's in the draft, at least with high level picks. Similar to Inside LBs. Just would be surprised. Not saying it isnt possible.

NDBadaBing
SD, tight ends are becoming a huge focal point in the NFL and Tyler is as complete a package as you'll find. He is very highly regarded.
KellyisNasty
Mel Kiper just said that any NFL team that wants Manti Teo better have the 2nd or 3rd pick overall
da coach
When looking at draft slotting consider teams with a need and where they draft relative to the player... Denver, Chicago, Seattle and Oakland all in need of a tight end upgrade...Atlanta, San Diego, Tampa Bay and NY Giants could all be looking to replace their pending free agent/ retiring/regressing starter. Since most of these teams will be drafting in the bottom third of the first round, I'd say he's more likely to benefit from a year of better blocking, physical maturity and health. I'm a bears fan. With no starting left tackle available at 25, he would make me very happy as a replacement for Kellen Davis
da coach
Mel Kiper just said that any NFL team that wants Manti Teo better have the 2nd or 3rd pick overall Depending on the team, he could go #1 overall... Jags are going to fire their GM, Also likely to give one more year to Gabbert and Mularkey, before pulling the plug. They may also bring in Tebow, as I doubt he returns to the Jets...They need a defensive leader and someone who has some name recognition to sell tickets. Jarvis Jones and Star Lotulelei (dt, Utah) are also in the conversation. KC is a lock to pick Barkley or Geno... Carolina, Washington, Cleveland and St Louis all appear in the mix for the top pick but content at the qb position and without a cant miss QB on the board, they could find it difficult to move the first pick. Skins would love to get him in the middle as would Cleveland.
Soko
I'm a big Falcons fan and I'd be shocked if Dimitritof passed on him. I think he will be well gone by the end of the first. He's a much better prospect than Rudolf imo and he's doing pretty well for himself right now.

He's a much better prospect than Rudolf imo and he's doing pretty well for himself right now. He is the total package at TE, as elite a TE as I have seen in a long time. It's not just his ability to go up and attack the ball like Tony Gonzalez, but the way he seals the edge and blocks at the 2nd level is great and it will only get better. I'd be really surprised to see him make it out of the 1st round.
KellyisNasty
I'd like to see GB draft Eifert. Rodgers has very few sure-handed catchers. Only problem is TT has a blind-spot in the draft for certain positions such as RB and TE. That said, Quarless is always hurt and Finley McBadhands is a FA after this season. They already have 5 TE's on the roster and no way TT drafts a TE in Rd1. Too many needs ahead of him. Die hard Packer fan and shareholder/OWNER so I know what I'm talking about! Actually would love but never gonna happen...

And IMO Finley will likely be cut after this season to save his 4.5 million roster bonus due in March. His talent is easily replaced for that kind of salary. Sorry bro, no crabby patty from you on this one...A Rod makes an average TE look great, agree with Finley, let him go, Quarless is coming off the knee so let's see how he recovers, ask Crabtree about his TD last week. DJ Williams is getting big props from McCarthy, Taylor is a demon on special teams...We don't need all pro TE's for this offense. So back to my point, no way TT goes TE with a 1st Rd choice. I never said TT would draft a TE in the first round. Like I said in my original post, he has a blind spot for TEs and RBs in the draft. Also, he couldn't draft a good RB to save his life, so I can't see him fixing that hole either. Edit: knew you would bring up Crabtrees TD. He's really a glorified WR. I think Goodman might be bigger. Very doubtful Crabtree could block a LB much less a DE. GB is hanging its hat on a skinny "TE" and another guy in Quarless who has knee problems.
