TheRizz 5
Looks like Matt Hegarty got hurt and is "shut down" for the rest of the year. BK said the injury wasn't suffered on the football field. Hopefully he heals quickly and fully.
Big23Head 2,502
Irish Illustrated @NDatRivals Reserve center Matt Hegarty "shut down" until further testing can be done, according to Brian Kelly. Irish Illustrated @NDatRivals Brian Kelly said Matt Hegarty's injury was not suffered during a football practice. Return during the regular season doubtful. Dan Murphy @BGI_DanMurphy #NotreDame reserve C Matt Hegarty had a non-football related medical issue that will likely keep him out for the rest of the regular season. OKCIrish99 3
Sure would like to know what happened to cause this. Just sounds a little odd. He can rest up for next year. We're going to need him. On another note, the injury bug hasn't bee too kind too us, lately, with Daniels and Hegarty. We'll need all our horses for USC. A lot of fans have forgotten how highly rated he was coming out of hs. A strong 4 star and some even considered a 5 star. Hope he heals quickly and fully. ColinKSU 18
Hopefully Matt gets well. On a related note, am I the only one extremely concerned about next year's OL depth? Say Matt has a problem that forces him to retire, that's four linemen permanently gone since last year ended in him, Prestwood, Carico and Nichols. Zack Martin is leaning towards returning which would be monumental for the line. Also, we have 5 studs coming in along with Ronnie Stanley. Lombard can move in. More than anything, Hegarty is important for the future of the center position (obviously a very important position.)

corysold 0
AssumInf Martin and Watt come back, ND is probably ok for next year. The year after is the bigger worry. Who would be the upper class OL in 2014? N Martin. Stanley. Hegarty if he comes back. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but not many really good O-lines start a bunch of sophomores. corysold 0
And Mark Harrell. Yeah, I forgot Hanratty as well. Apparently the sky won't be falling as I portrayed. Carry on with discussing how ND will be winning their 3rd straight title in 2014.

Montelus, Elmer, McGlinchey, Bivin and McGovern would be Sophs, but any one or two of them might end up being just as good or better than any senior around. Martin, Hegarty, Stanley, Hanratty... then add Lombard who has 5th yr eligibility for '14, and Jones, who is supposed to be as good or better as an OT than as a DE. Oline is one unit I'm not worried at all about for the future of this program. They are loaded along with linebackers.

Yeah, there isn't much concern plugging a sophomore or two into a more veteran O-Line. I'd be more concerned if the line had to be starting 4 or 5 sophomores. But as I was missing a few players, it wouldn't appear that will have to be the case anytime soon.
