Nut up or shut up

The general perception isn't good right now. It doesn't help when some of our own fans act like spoiled brats with a 10-0 record. I was at the gas station today and heard some POS ND "fan" downplaying the team to someone in line. I had to speak up and put him in his place. We're ten and oh. We have beaten three teams currently ranked top 25. We curb stomped Oklahoma, in Norman, on national TV. But let's cry about not coming out with the same fire against Pitt. I told him, "You just saw Alabama come out and give up a 20 spot to a far from elite Texas A&M team in the first quarter after an emotional win against LSU on the road. Let downs happen, we survived ours."

I seriously want to punch every one of our fans right in the stomach who do anything but fawn over a team that is 10-0 right now. I watch to knock the wind right out of their ungrateful, smug faces. Seriously, I see tweets like this from Cam McDaniel and I shake my head:

Cam McDaniel ‏@cammcdaniel4

We don't need our fans to be critics... We have enough of those. We need them to support us, and celebrate the victory with us! #10-0

Unless you called this team to be 10-0 at this point, shut the **** up with the bitching about lack of style points. We have the top ranked scoring defense in the whole Effin' country and that's not good enough. We are top 10 in almost every defensive category but that's not good enough. If we had a goofy flawed team like Charlies 2005/2006 teams you'd love it, "ERMAGERD I LOVE SCORING THE POINTS!" and when you meet an SEC team and they punch you in the gut, you get blown out.(See what WE DID to Oklahoma) We sure had a lot of style with our stupid 2005 Moral Victory against USC...

We have an SEC style offense. Because they are the SEC, they don't need style points, they get the benefit of the doubt in their ugly slobber-knocker wins. Anyone who trash talks this team has ignored what has gone on down south. This is how LSU plays. This is how Alabama plays. This is how the SEC has won 6 straight National Titles. But go ahead, continue to bitch about the greatest football Notre Dame football team we have fielded since 1988.

F*** yeah! You tell 'em Piratey!

Now, I will concede that there is a time and place to discuss the flaws of this Notre Dame team.

That said, I've never seen so many people bitch and moan because a 10-0 team isn't good enough.

Get your heads out of your asses people! Wake the F up! We need to change the perception.

A HARRIS POLL VOTER STILL HAS ALABAMA NUMBER ONE!!!!!

SEC teams can blow and you'd talk to their fans and they'd think A&M must now be able to win the SuperBowl if they could beat the NFL caliber Crimson Tide.

Yet ND fans aren't impressed enough because it was a boring dismantling of Boston College, not a 62-40 fireworks show.

Take Wednesday to discuss the teams flaws and weaknesses, which there of course are.

Sundays are for talking up your team to the world.

12 COACHES HAVE NOTRE DAME BELOW THIRD!

23 HARRIS POLL VOTERS HAVE NOTRE DAME BELOW THIRD!

And it seems half the board agrees with them because our "let down" games were against teams that actually have BCS players, not some FCS program.

UNDFEATED SEASONS ARE HARD!!!! It doesn't matter how you get there. Think Ohio St. fans of 2002 want to give back the trophy because they were the most offensive inept national title winner ever? Doubt it.

Awesome post man. I consider myself realist but I'm not going to spew off pessimist remarks just to prove how cool I am. There is room for improvement especially offensively, but just because you don't score 50 points against BC and got lucky one game is no reason to dismiss what we are seeing this year. ND isn't winning with smoke and mirrors.

I am freaking ecstatic we are 10 and 0 and regardless of what happens from here on out ND football has taken a huge step forward. Some fans, including some on this board, don't know how to handle success. Enjoy it, because as coach says "winnin ain't easy" (for the record neither is pimpin)

And for all those offensive savants out there.

Know why our offense hasn't looked great every game this year?

ND HAS PLAYED 6 DEFENSES IN THE TOP 38!

5 IN THE TOP 22!

With a freshman QB.

Do you know how many top 40 defenses Oregon has played?

ZERO!

Do you know who else has played 5 of the top 22 defenses in the nation?

NO ONE!

Flippin' Kansas State beats a 6-4 TCU team, with one win against a team with a winning record(5-4 WVU...) 23-10 and people aren't crapping all over them. We do essentially the same thing, 21-6 against BC, and people act like we eeked out a win. The game was never in doubt after the first drive of the game.

Wanna hear something else fun? We have held four BCS conference teams out of the end zone(and seven teams to one or less TD's)

Somebody posted a star about offensive efficiency last week I think we were 4th. The reason we don't stomp teams is because of our grind it out offense and bend but don't break defense. Yesterday we only had 3 possessions in the first half. 2nd half was a little sloppy but that game was never in doubt.

Piratey... great post... great stats ... a refreshing slap.

I am overwhelmed by the heart shown by this team. They have gone way beyond expectation ... we should be happy! ecstatic, in fact.

I personally think ND should be #1 in the nation .... i trust the computers more than the polls, especially the Sagarin ELO Chess (predictor) model.

I think that the problem on the board is that so many (including myself) keep rationalizing why ND is 3rd in the human polls when we should be placing more energy and anger on the the corruptness of the human polls.

It's embarrassing that the votes are secret. Secret votes in this case only serve to protect conference agendas and monied interests. The media used to serve as an objective fourth estate, but no longer... haven't in a while.. in ANY forum or enterprise (sports and elsewhere).

At least the AP has the integrity to not participate in the BCS sham... they just don't have the intelligence to integrate data into their "eyeball" test.

I don't have a HUGE problem with Oregon being ahead, I do have a big problem with KSU being ahead. I would like to know where Bob Stoops ranked us (if he has a vote).

I liked Kelly's comments on the coaches poll on the DP Show... it should be an alum of retired coaches, NFL scouts and even some former players who actually follow... and then there should be a public roll call. People who have NO (financial) stake in the outcome of the poll. Pay them to do the poll in fact.

Just to dilute my rant further... something has to be done about the Heisman... how Johnny Football can have one iconic game, and be in the Heisman conversation is ridiculous. How Manti can be teetering on not being even invited is ridiculous.

If I knew how to quote multiple posts, I'd be quoting him and applauding him as well.........

Both of you have said it very well. If you can't support your team through the loses as well as the wins, then go jump on another bandwagon.

I will admit, I am one of the ones you are calling out. I keep hoping for an exciting blow out game and end up with a 21-6 win over a 2-7 team. I however know that if you put up a win, unless you look deeper at the stats and records, a win is a win, whether it's ugly or pretty.

I am very happy with a 10-0 team and very excited for the possibilities should the Irish win out. Also am disappointed with the other possibilites if they win out. But, that disappointment has to do more with the bias around the country.

Hell, there's a guy in my office still saying that the final stand against Stanford, Taylor got in on third AND fourth down. And how long has that game been over with????? I of course told him to rewatch that series, because he clearly didn't get in on third and the play was blown dead befor he got in on 4th.

It's been pointed out that SEC teams, as well as other conferences, play less FCS teams. Hell, some lose to them and they still get mad respect. Where would ND be ranked if they lost to a 15th ranked team? They surely wouldn't be in the top 10, might be lucky to hold onto a top 15 ranking.

The Irish are getting screwed. The voters, some if not most, are a new generation that were brought up to hate ND, not respect what they have done for college football.

Unfortunately, it's out of BK's and the team's hands. They can just win out and hope that Oregon or KSU loses in the next couple of weeks. But, with the bull in the polls, I have a feeling they'd still get screwed in the end.

So, I echo the sentiments of this post. Support your team, stop criticizing and enjoy the year that has been and what is to come.

GO IRISH!!!!

To be clear, and I won't speak for Piratey, I am not against criticism of the team. Certainly this team has flaws that need to be addressed.

But, I do think there is a difference between criticizing flaws as they develop over the course of a season, special teams, red-zone offense etc. and using one or two games to define a season.

Has ND had a few underwhelming win? Of course. But show me a 10-0 team without unimpressive wins. Every team has them. Every year.

It's hard to get to 10-0. Pointing out one or two underwhelming wins when the schedule is littered with big, season defining wins just doesn't make sense.

Correct, and that's thr frustration of a lot of us, is that other teams have underwhelming wins as well as having a weaker schedule, yet still get more love.

I guess that's why I love the underdogs (unless they are a dog going against the Irish  )

Can't do much more than win every game you play. I absolutely love the character of this team, I laugh during our 7-8 minute drives while the opposing QB tries to stay loose.

I love the fact that BC was nowhere near as close to the Irish as the score, yet we hawked them like they stole Shembo's bike up until the last minute.
