da coach
Anyone want to start speculating? Below are the eligible players and my percentage guess on their return (100 being the most likely to return and 0 being no chance of return) Martin - 50 Watt - 75 Eifert - 10 Jake Golic - 10 Stockton - 10 Fox - 75 Calabrese - 75 Motta - 70 Slaughter -
nd1989
I think your Carlo number is way too high. No way two fifth years at the same position with the recruiting draw we have this year. Plus, isn't Motta out of eligibility after this year?

1qa
Martin - 75 Watt - 100 Eifert - 10 WAHHH Jake Golic - 0 Stockton - 0 Fox - 100 Wood - 40 (he should come back) Calabrese - 40 (Fox is becoming the complete LB, if it's a choice between a superior recruit & Carlo... recruit wins) Slaughter - 100 if medical approved (love to have experience with Farley & Collinsworth ahead). Edited November 6, 2012 by 1qa forgot Cierre... doh. Cut & Paste Victim
irishrb
I think Martin, Watt, Fox, and Calabrese and CIERRE are all back. Calabrese is a big contibutor and will help ND win NOW. Cierre comes back and puts up Heisman like numbers. IF Slaughter gets his 6th year, he's a lock too. Jason
Are we just assuming Cierre won't be back?
Rockets Revenge
Martin - 50 Wood - 50 Watt - 100 Eifert - 10 Jake Golic - 0 Stockton - 0 Fox - 75 Calabrese - 40 Slaughter - 10 ( I don't think his medical hardship gets approved) Personally I would only like to see Martin, Wood, Watt, Eifert, and Slaughter come back. corysold
I think it all comes down to who are you replacing the player with. While Slaughter would be nice to have, would you rather have him off achilles surgery for one year, or Max Redfield for four? As good as Calabrese is at what he does, would you want him for one year or Alquadin Muhammad for four? Now maybe it doesn't come down to exact one for one like that, but I'd have to know who I am losing out if a 5th year guy is coming back. Rocketsan
Martin - 95 (Martin brothers make a great story) Wood - 50 (I personally don't care if he comes back, would prefer he doesn't) Watt - 80 (he's a great guard) Eifert - 0 (no chance he comes back) Jake Golic - 0 Stockton - 0 Fox - 75 (could benefit from being a leader of the defense) Calabrese - 50 (hard nosed player, could benefit from working on pass coverage - hey, it worked for Tte'o) Slaughter - 90 ( I do think his medical hardship gets approved)

True, but senior leadership has paid of in spades this season. Unless some soph and juniors are ready to lead by example, then you need guys who've been around the block. and you'd still get those quality recruits either way if they are buying into the program, some lesser role guys would just get the bump... AtLeastMySisWasIrish
I don't get into projecting the 5th yrs vs recruits because I truly have no idea what's going on inside the Gug but understand it is fun for a message board but will dip 1 toe in the pool and say that if the staff is working to get Slaughter a 6th year, then that indicates to me the staff wants him back. Considering the depth we have at S, it could make sense they let him graduate and move on with what we have but I believe the staff is doing this because of the leadership in both the lockeroom and on the field he brings to warrant this move. Recruiting is fun and we always want to keep reloading but this team is on a roll and being built for a sustained future and I would be surprised if given the extra year, he isn't one of our D captains next year. Losing Manti means so much off the field and Slaughter can go a long way in helping to full the void. He is much more than a player for this team and I for one would welcome him back. NDhoosier
Are we basing this % after we know they are not declaring for the draft or does the % take into account of chances to go to the NFL? This is if every (excluding Eifert) says no to the draft Wood 100% Watt 100% Martin 100% Slaughter 100% (I still think it is unlikely that he gets his 6th year granted, but who knows) Fox 75% Calabrese 50% Tausch 0% Stockton 0% Golic Jr. 0% I still dont think you take both Fox and Calabrese, Moore should be fine in replacing Calabrese as the run stuffer. Fox is the more versatile of the two while Calabrese is still very one dimensional.
