nd1989 216
I'm not particularly happy with Cierre's fumble. So I'm rewatching the highlights, and Brian Kelly stated that Cierre took a pretty good hit when he fumbled. Well I rewatched this, and I don't see him getting hit at all. He just drops it. Cierre needs to improve. As a senior he cannot fumble at the goal line.

That's exactly what I saw. he dropped it when he hit Zack Martin's back. If you think about it, that's really, really poor. BK has to be so pissed. He was clearly covering for him, on Sunday's PC. Crab Apple 0
Fumbles happen dude. Even the best NFL RBs drop the ball when the ball gets hit in their arms at just the right angle/force. Cierre dove into the endzone and Martin was moving into the same area at the perfect time, Cierre's arms/the ball hit Martin with a ton of force, and the ball came out. It happens. It was a fluky accident.

NDhoosier 1,336
fumbles happen, but the timing of the fumble could not have been worse, it just sucks to see Wood fumble at that point in the game. He should bounce back though.

This one should have cost us the game. Just feel BK likes Riddick's ball protection better along with his more north-south running style. Will be interesting to see if Wood comes back next year or not.
notredameroom 0
Guess he'd come back for final season. Would be top guy (although GAIII and amir carlisle are in the fold).
OKCIrish99 3
Guess he'd come back for final season. Would be top guy (although GAIII and amir carlisle are in the fold). All the reports suggest he wants to go pro after this year. The 2 game suspension didn't help. Bet at a minimum, he'll strongly consider it.
brian_nd88 106
he may go pro, notwithstanding a down year compared to last year, if he thinks that he will be in kelly's doghouse all next year. if he will be the likely featured running back with ga3 for speed, and amir and mahone working their way in, then he may come back. if he doubts that, i think he goes and just hopes for the best in the draft. smaster 5
Fumbles happen dude.... It happens. It was a fluky accident. Can anybody imagine Cierre saying this to BK on the sidelines? We'd see an instant purple face. Yes, these things happen; it doesn't mean we can't get rip-roaring mad about it.
hawaiiirish 62
Cierre is a terrific back---my guess he will go pro withgreat combine---he is VERY FAST--he is solidly coached--can catch out of the backfield and is good at blitz pick-up---he also has had a very flashy carrer and its advantage to have been used sparingly this season--NO HISTORY OF INJURY---FRESH LEGS---ALL THE TOOLS---this is just what they are looking for in the NFL---NFL teams as it is have demoted the importance of the RB position--it is a passing league----they are looking for good backs that won't cost them uber high picks---they also DON'T WANT a back who is all used up after carrying the load for years in college--- On the fumble--he did not drop that ball--if you look at the tape that ball elevated almost ONE FOOT---it was KNOCKED out , either by a lineman or from a punch underneath when he was in the air and prone---balls do not fly upward when they are dropped-----very happy he was not the goat---fumbles happen--he is not fumble prone by any stretch. Cierre will still have ALOT TO SAY about how this year turns out----he is explosive , he can turn the corner, and is our most dangerous back despite GA3's incredible breakaway speed--- aloha's go irish! OklahomaIrish 0
I would approach Cierre after the season and tell him he will be the go to back. Riddick will be gone. Cierre doesn't have big stats this year. Come back and lead us to the national title. Man, I wish I were the head coach and could have all these little meetings in my office. Guys, we are rolling. This recruiting class is a monster and our roster is the most loaded I have seen it in many many years. I can't wait to come to Notre Dame next year with the Oklahoma contingent. Should be about 40 of us in our group.

I'd make him not set that ball down for a week. Wasn't this a Devine thing? But he needs to realize he fumbled the ball running into the back of his lineman. HE FUMBLED RUNNING INTO HIS OWN TEAMMATE. I think this really borders on absurd. Doesn't he have a history of fumbling? I'm not sure he's the answer next year. I think he needs to demonstrate the ability to not fumble in crucial situations this year. I'm not sure yet that I would even offer him a 5th if he can't demonstrate that.
