FaithInIrish Forever
Would you see an advantage to a wishbone formation at the goalline? Don't laugh to hard! The personnel would be, Hendrix at fullback, Golson at QB and Cierre and Theo on the wings. Just an idea! Indulge my craziness for a moment or two. It would work! I just sent to the askcoachkelly email address...LOL.. Thanks for putting up with me!
NDhoosier
I would rather see Theo as the fullback and Wood and GAIII as the wings... That would be a deadly backfield.

My logic for Hendrix is after this year, he is likely a man without a position. He has a downhill running style, and would likely be a good fullback/h-back/tight end/for that matter linebacker/ safety. Good point though! Irish_Thunder
Manti at FB would be a dream scenario for me and Heisman voters... or they could just let me vote.

Or one of Nix/Tuitt at FB blocking for Manti. Doubt that would get stopped in 1 yard to go situations.

In this scenario, EG would be on the sidelines due to two #5's not being allowed on the field. However, I would love to see Manti score. Green Goblin
Against USC we should have Cam and Andrew switch jerseys, run a "sweep" with Hendrix but have Hendrix stop and hit Eifert running a backside post...They'd never see it coming. Franco
I would have a power formation with 2 TEs, Hendrix under center, Manti as the FB, and Riddick as the HB. With the TEs and Riddick in the backfield, you can play-action all day. And Manti is a helluva runner.

I think that a power run formation with double TEs would be lethal, though we only really have one TE who presents a consistent threat. nd1989
Manti at FB would be a dream scenario for me and Heisman voters. Yes, but then we would get a penalty for two number 5's on the field....

Fun to think about. maybe could do it on xbox or playstation, but even that game probably won't let you sub in a quarterback for a fullback
IrishItalian15
I mentioned last week using Hendrix like Oklahoma uses the Belldozer in a goal line package. Got crucified for the size difference. Yes the Belldozer is taller and weighs more, but Hendrix could add some mass if necessary. With Hendrix running the ball that would allow for a 10th blocker. Just my $.
IrishOrDie
I love the idea of Hendrix being in a goaline situation as a fullback/quarterback. They could do some trick plays where Hendrix throws to Golson or vice versa. Have Hendrix just man up and drive the ball in since he's a tough runner. He can also be used as a decoy. Have him line up wide and do a fake sweep and do a quick pitch to Theo/Wood/GAIII. Hendrix has to be used in someway. He's too good of an athlete and runner to not be used in some capacity. rocketsurgery
If we were to go to a bone type backfield near the goal line, I would want Theo and Toma at the halfback spots, and Cam at the full. I think that gives you the right type of tough runners you need down around the goal line. Not only that but that would give you two excellent receivers coming out of the backfield should you choose to pass.
notredameroom
you want your fullback to be able to carry the ball, yes. but he needs to be able to move bodies. Cam rocks, but I doubt he'd have the advantage in the hole against a massive backer. ND runs no I-formation, and often times use their tight ends and motion to create that extra blocker out of the single back that you might see out of a straight I formation. AH is a similiar athlete or better...
