Three Pittsburgh starters -- wide receiver Devin Street, running back Ray Graham and defensive back Lafayette Pitts -- were charged with assault and conspiracy Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

If they become unavailable for the game Saturday, no Street and Graham make this game significantly easier.

"The players were not arrested but will receive summonses requiring their appearance at a Jan. 9 preliminary court hearing, the newspaper reported."

Likely statement to come Friday from Pitt Athletic Department:

"Since they're not actually in jail, expect them to be on the field Saturday ... GO PANTHERS!"

Not going to lie, this makes me happy! I already feel confident about a win but now with no "ray ray", their toast!

I will be in attendance for the first time in my life!! Driving to san Fran as I type this! Then jumping on a plane to Chicago then south bend! Could not be more excited!

Have a great time, br! It's an unforgettable experience, especially considering the homecoming welcome our team will get!

Thank you smaster! Never had the chance to make it back until now but what better timing?! I was sitting at work on Sunday still ecstatic from the Oklahoma game and I thought, why the hell not! I'm going to soak in all the memories of this trip! Best part is I'm taking my younger brother with me, this is something we will remember forever.

If they play then there is something wrong with the coach and the school.

Nearly any other program would have them suspended for the game, if not the season.

You know, of course, if they do not play, it will be one more reason for the haters to say that a ND victory is really not a big deal. They can already say that because Pitt is 4-4 but now . . . not that I am advocating they should play, mind you, just speculating what the 'pundits' (ala Mark May) will say . . .

"Of course, ND won, their three best players were not on the field because had they been on the field, Pitt would have . . ."

Lou says "If you talk to your players and tell them to leave their gang mentality at home, they'd stay out of trouble."

But, you are correct, that would be the only reason ND beats Pitt because their three best players are awaiting jail sentences.......
