1qa 0
Both AP and Coaches have ND 4th... I would have figured we'd jump KSU in one of the polls. Our quality wins are better and more decisive than KSU. Well, the positive is that the disrespect the National "kingmakers" continue to show can only motivate and focus the team. coltssb 1,120
K-state hasn't really done anything to be moved down. They have won and proved they belong just like ND. Like ND, they have went to other team's home fields and won. They've played good teams and dominated. If we are just looking at an unbiased eye, I would put K-state-1, ND-2, Alabama-3, Oregon-4. I don't care that you can put up 50 on chumps and look good doing it. Oregon will finally get some competition, Alabama will show what they have next week. I'm not suprised at all by this ranking. MantyIrish 0
trying to not be too biased........but...if you look at common opponents between K-State and ND........which are Oklahoma and Miami.......I give the nod to ND. It is really to0 bad that MSU and UM have crumbled. USC losing and Stanford......they could be doing better to help us too. They are losing on purpose to hurt our SOS. LOL. K-state beat W.Virginia and ND beat Stanford. I give creedance to the fact that K-state beat two teams that were in the top 10 at the time and both undeated. It's tough to beat teams that are highly ranked and still playing for a NC. They still have that belief. The Stanford game was at home and we have that Taylor run that puts doubts in some peoples eyes. Plus, all the close wins we've had. K-state hasn't had a close game, I don't believe. I'll have to check. Eye candy still has some relevance.

K State and ND have two common opponents, as mentioned. In both games, ND gave up fewer yards and gained more yards. Oklahoma gave the game to K. State. ND took it from Oklahoma. These things should matter, but who knows if they will. K States schedule is not as tough as ND. Their win at W. Virginia isn't any better than ND's win at Michigan St. ND's Oklahoma win is better. ND's Miami win was more dominate. K. State opened with Missouri St and North Texas two of their first three games. I might be biased, but ND has done more this year than K. State to this point. And again, for all those who say preseason rankings don't matter. K. State started two spots ahead of ND. They've remained 2-3 spots ahead until they both topped out where they are now. Has ND done anything that if they had started the year higher that K. State should have jumped them? No. ND is playing from behind because of pre-season polls at this point. When it starts getting crowded at the top, those preseason rankings matter a whole lot. Sure, there is some leapfrogging, but you're mainly going to have an advantage starting higher than lower. NicePost 0
The Irish will likely jump Oregon for the #3 spot if they can go all the way given the pathetic non-conference games that Oregon scheduled. The BCS computers don't take in to account margin of victories, so the 70 point blowouts of Oregon's offense won't help them. Unfortunately, unless Kansas State loses, then we're screwed. I don't see the Irish jumping KS with wins over the remaining schedule. USC continues to disappoint, so that win won't help. If Bama beats #5 LSU and #7 Georgia in the SEC title game, then clearly they remain locked in at #1. KS must stumble. If they don't, then imagine a 12-0 Irish team playing Oregon in the bridesmaid bowl. Edited October 28, 2012 by NicePost

smaster 5
Guys, we are writing this stuff in OCTOBER. Let it play out before any whining starts. There are still plenty of opportunities for teams (including ND) to falter. We are now firmly entrenched on the NC short list, and I'm just going to enjoy it. BTW there is no way, based on the performances of the top five yesterday, that you could expect us to jump someone besides Florida. Relax and let November happen. WTF are you talking about? They have beat ranked teams on the road handily. I'm not mad at you for not watching other college football teams, but this assumption is dead wrong objectively... If this upsets you then maybe you could move on to another thread? Read again: there's premature whining aplenty. Congrats on your month awareness. It's perfectly reasonable for one to step in and remind people that we are getting ahead of ourselves. I thus extend the same invitation back to you -- other threads abound if my perspective abhors you. If anyone should feel slighted (in spite of the earliness), it should be Oregon. They are clearly the better/best team at this point and now sit at #4. However, there's lots o football left if they can clean up in November, they are sure to jump back in. What the hell are you even talking about? We're all just talking football and discussing what-ifs... on a football forum site. No one's pulling their hair out. It's just banter and discussions, and in the midst of it, you feel the need to come on in and remind everyone of the obvious...that there is a lot of football to play. No sh*t Sherlock. 1qa 0
@JTennant... My argument is that 1. against common opponents we have better wins. Ask OU whether they think we or KSU is better 2. Against today's rankings, our SOS is still better than KSU. I will give KSU eye test points for scoring lots of points, but that is tempered by arguments above and slight homer bias. The human pollsters need to feel we have a complete team, consistently - O and D. Unfortunately, humans weight O more than D when assigning rankings, IMO
