Even though the NBC broadcast and announcers gave him a pass for the INT being "tipped/deflected at the line, I have watched that play several times. It was not deflected, it was not tipped, it was catchable, and he did not catch a very catchable ball.

I think the ball just got on him to quick, he needed to get his head around quicker. Definitely a catachable ball.

Those things happen even to the best WR's in the country. Daniels has been big for us this year and remember that he is only a soph.

Also wanted to point out the mistakes in that game: Niklas (soph) with the PF, Farley (soph) with the PF (although that call was questionable), Daniels (soph) with the INT... They went after fresh Russell too (remember how to spell his name?) although he handled it quite well. The blown coverage in the end zone: I have no idea who that was but I suspect a LB was supposed to pick that guy up or was it one of our young CB's or safety? Nix (redshirt soph) with what was probably an inadvertent FM: he did the exact same thing the play before and BYU wanted a facemask (but he actually grabbed the top front of the player's shoulder pads).

I did not see either Shumate, Stanley, Brown, Furguson, or Baratti in there lately and I have to wonder if our coaches have perhaps decided to redshirt most or even all of those guys. Frankly, I am unclear about redshirting rules. Coach Kelly said something about a game 7 cutoff, but, from what I read, that only applies to season ending injuries...

Right, Kelly confused the two in a presser and has since confused everyone else.

One play and the redshirt is gone, unless there is an injury. But anyone who played Saturday is past that point as it is game 7.

Shumate, Brown, Ferguson and Barratti all played according the boxscore.

We can't redshirt those guys, they played. I don't fault Daniels. It was a learning experience. He has good hands. Nix held onto that face mask, making it an easy call. We had bad breaks all game. We won. Next game, maybe the breaks go our way.

Me neither. Bad throw by Rees.

Wow, this thread seems a bit premature. Daniels has been one of our more solid offensive players all season and he drops one pass and we make a thread about it? There are many more parts of our offense that deserve criticism threads more than Davaris Daniels.

While Daniels has played well, that INT was on him, not Rees. As many posters have stated, it happens. He'll get over it and so will we, but it was DD's fault.

The thread was really started only to criticize the NBC broadcast (Mayock and the trannie) for insisting that the ball was tipped at the line. The continued to say it even after the super slow mo replay clearly showed that was not the case. Don't they see that same replay? But then again, the replay for the bogus td by BYU didnt get overturned even in the face of undisputed evidence. I certainly agree that that stuff happens, but it turned out to be a pivotal play leading to a score.

Yeah, Daniels just duffed that one. No excuse, really.

Still think he's a good player and will be a force as he matures into a better/more experienced player.

I don't fault Daniels either - stuff happens. But it does aggravate me a tad how some wizards around here actually pin that turnover on Rees; generally speaking, when the ball passes cleanly between the receiver's hands, and said hands are essentially bracketing the numbers on the front of his jersey, the TO would be assigned to the receiver.;)

Me neither. Bad throw by Rees.

Yeah, we should ask Tommy not to hit him in the hands next time!!!

I have heard a lot of questionable announcing, I think that is what the NFL replacement refs are doing now.

IRT Daniels, the kid has been solid. If you look at his body of work at WR this year, he is right up there with Toma, TJ, and Theo. I think he is a stud for a freshman and he is going to be playing at the Floyd level, or at least the Stovall/McKnight peak level.

Did suck to see the ball pop up like that, though. I need to watch it again, but it looks to me like the ball hung up (After the deflection) long enough for him to at least get a shot at breaking up the INT. But I may be wrong and that kind of ball awareness comes in time.

Me neither. Bad throw by Rees.

Can't really fault Daniels. As others have said, he's been pretty solid and clutch at points this season.

And, let's not forget, it was a rocket of a throw from a QB that has no arm!!

GO IRISH!!!

Re-watching the play, Rees was under some heat and he put a lot of mustard on the throw ( at least for him). Plus it was just a tad high, which is hard to react to on such a short throw, especially since it was thrown pretty hard.

Both players deserve some of the blame.

Right after the Farley play happened with the late hit, everyone in the room we were watching it knew it would be a PF late hit. It wasn't really that close, they were out of bounds and Farley threw him to the ground. It was pure frustration on his part.

With that said, Daniels and Farley are going to be *good.* They get a pass from me, no one is perfect.

meh, daniels was thinking about running before trying to catch it....shit happens.....

The ball went through Daniels' hands and then hit him in the helmet. You can't fault a QB for throwing it hard, or hitting a guy in front of his face. None of the blame can be put on Rees for that one, if you ask me.
