Everyone from message board posters to Kelly himself knows that our offense struggles to put points up in the red zone. We've settled for way to many field goals, especially between last year and this year. I'm wondering why we don't make use of Andrew Hendrix when we're within, say, ten yards of the endzone.

When you think about it, we have three tailbacks who are essentially all finesse players. No matter how hard Riddick runs, his size means he's going to be stood up on most goal line runs. Why not put Andrew Hendrix out there who not only makes defenses have to guard against the past, but who obviously runs the ball with some serious power? I think we could use this kid in goal line situations like Oklahoma uses their Bell Dozer.

Any thoughts? Personally, I don't think Hendrix should be QBing or anything. But in a narrow window like that, I think the force with which he runs the ball could result in a few more touchdowns.

I can tell you two Domer fans over my way were screaming for this on Saturday. Makes total sense

I don't know, according to some other posters, we can't question any use of personnel or playcalling without thinking that we'd be better head coaches than BK, so I'll keep mum I guess.

I wouldn't say there really is that threat of the pass. At least, what we gain with possibly running (and I don't see us gaining much vs a golson) we lose with e pass. Hendrix is what golson was last year: a player in vogue simply because he has little film to pick apart. Remember, we've seen this offense Oma few occasions last year and it was turnover prone and limited options rather than expanding them.

It seems that everybody's made about one series yesterday. We ran it in on one of three time inside the ten. Our run game also ran it down their throats on TWO drives in the 4th quarter, when the opponent knew we were running (which we also did to UM and MSU).

Granted, we don't have a Robert hughes or Jonas gray but it would seem to me that the coaches could better apply their time shoring up golic/niklas and stupid penalties than focusing on a third QB for a gimmick offense that would at best up our red zone effectiveness by a few percentage points.

Repeat after me... Hendrix. Is. Not. Tim. Tebow.

Wood is just as big and strong and I would rather have him run with the ball than Hendrix any day of the week.

Exactly. For some reason people think Hendrix is a lot bigger than he is. He is 6'2 and 225. Which makes him and inch taller than wood and 5 lbs heavier. I guess if I had to choose I'd rather have Wood or Riddick run it on short yardage.

Now if you're doing it cuz you get an extra blocker that I can see.

Cierre is 210-215. Andrew is 225-235. Kelly has said Hendrix is built like a linebacker. Just like Te'o is still listed at 255 when he's actually 240 now, I think 230+ is a good estimate for Andrew. You also have to consider running style. Hendrix puts his head down while Cierre is a better off the edge guy. Wood just doesn't pound it out. He's our best back, I just don't think he is in the endzone. See: Use of GAIII.

Jesus H. Christ we need a fullback in a bad way.

Dude, ignore measurements and just watch Hendrix run. The kid is a maniac who -- though he's no faster than our RBs -- has more explosion. He just runs like a man possessed, in part, I think, because he's nervous when he's out there (which is why I don't think he'd be a good QB). But as a goal line threat, he'd be great.

For Cierre's weight: UND.com or notredame.rivals.com

For Hendrix being build like a linebacker: see Kelly's pressers. I don't remember which one because I watch all of them and there's 3-4 a week, but he said it.

Beyond that: see other poster's remark about how Hendrix runs.

For Hendrix, you tack on about 10-15lbs from every source out there.

Dude, stop flipping through press guides and use your eyes: Hendrix has a stronger frame than any of the RBs on our squad, except for Mahone. Watch his film, too: he runs like a bulldozer and could play an important role if he stepped in in the red zone. Why are people so opposed to this when Kelly himself said in today's presser that they keep failing to put points on the board after trips to the red zone? We don't have a single QB whom I trust to throw the ball into the endzone without having it picked off, so personally, I'd rather put as many running weapons into the game as possible.

Was just about to call B.S. but...

Cierre Wood - 6', 215 pounds

Andrew Hendrix - 6'2", 220

Who was that QB who couldn't pound itin Form inside the five on USC last year with a few tries? Andrew something.

The O line played terrible that game.

My buddy and I were talking Saturday about how from a Rees standpoint, the frustration is he moves the ball and stalls or turns it over in the red zone. We thought the answer would be using Rees to move the ball then putting in Hendrix in the RZ, like the OP.

Hendrix is a red zone nightmare. I think the coach knows it and is saving him for Oklahoma. Oklahoma almost always brings in the Bell Dozer and it works every time. Coach said that Hendrix is 230 pounds. He is at least 15 pounds bigger then Wood. But, hey, we can have them both on the field at the same time. Hendrix and Wood in the red zone. Niklas on the edge. I promise you that Oklahoma is not built to stop that. Hendrix can run this too. So maybe, just maybe, this is the plan Kelly has had all along. Hendrix came in for a couple plays and looks good. Coach didn't want to show any more. I say Hendrix plays next week in the red zone and as needed.

So bc of one drive in one game...from last season...that means Hendrix can't be used in the redzone?? I guess Stanford should bench Stepfan Taylor bc he couldn't punch it in last week? Great logic.

I would love to see this formation, except maybe having Niklas lead block from the backfield and clear a path. I've heard that once in a while in practice they use a formation that uses Louis Nix in the backfield in the redzone.

I think it was two Plays first off.

Second, my point is everyone acts like Hendrix is some miracle worker who can't be stopped inside the ten yard line.

Would he be an option maybe? Sure. But to act like he is the solution based off of 15 or so career runs is a little ridiculous.

Ha! Well played...

i like the running of the qb in the redzone a lot and think Hendrix would do a great job...i know some dont think he can throw but at least there is a threat.Hendrix is 220-230lbs plus when u run the qb u get an extra blocker which on the goaline is huge! i say why not
