He didn't pass his cognitive test yesterday and will take another one today. If he passes today's, he can practice tomorrow. Either way, the chances that Tommy Rees starting on Saturday aren't too farfetched at all now. Personally, I'd consider playing Rees/Hendrix Saturday (BYU) and have Everett watch nothing but film on Oklahoma in preparation for the showdown.

^^^^^That is a plan that actually makes sense.

Now I've heard some terrible idears......

And I dont think this is one

From Sportsbeat960 moments ago, "Kelly says Golson could practice for the first time on THU and still start Saturday."

I think Ev needs time under center, not time in the film room. To get the jitters out and get some swagger back, he needs to make plays and connect with his receivers.

If he can't play, he can't play, but I think it would be better if he did, if he can.

Its not a bad thought, but Golson is still young in his development and will need all the in game reps he can get before he heads into a big game like that. Lets also not look past BYU just yet.

Concussions are a scary thing, anyone who knows anything about them knows there's no such thing as a mild one. I hope if he's in there he is 100% the last thing I want is for him to get tossed back in to early and get another one and be out for the OU game.

if rees starts, the team will come out flat..................

I disagree. I think if there is one thing Tommy is, it is a good clubhouse guy. I think the team would want to make sure he shows well.

OK, he should pass one of these tests soon. Hopefully today. He's going to have a big game if we have a chance to beat OU. He may not be in a more hostile environment ever in his football career than what he'll be involved in a week from Saturday night.

This is weird, but I feel better about Golson vs. Oklahoma than I do vs. BYU.

Golson's three best games have all been on the road.

He's yet to finish a game at home.

If that's the case and I'm head coach, I UNDOUBTEDLY start Tommy Rees and get Golson some snaps sporadically throughout the first half. If he's good, he starts the second half.

I have been counting my chickens with BYU---i assumed Golson would start as usual---now i am somewhat worried--:-?

If tommy has to start and play the whole game , the BYU defense will have a chance to upend our attempt at seven straight.

My confidence in Tommy for an entire game against ANY decent team is simply NOT very high.

I'm going to hold out hope for Golson --we will be 7-0 if things go as they have at QB, but with just Tommy alone----wobbly knees here

Because the team fires on all cylinders when Golson starts?

The problem with tommy ( beyond picks) against a decent front seven is that over the course of a game we get a BOATLOAD of three & outs--- the defense is on the field too long--the field position digresses etc---that will simply kill your winning chances. If the BYU defense is all beaten up then we should be OK--but if they come in frosty & ready to play against ONLY TOMMY---it could be a VERY LONG AFTERNOON!

Tommy is a battle tested, experienced qb. He's learned a lot about what NOT to do by being on the sidelines watching golson.

No need to risk the young mans health here and it would be a horrible thing to even think to risk it. In my opinion we need to give Golson plenty of time to heal up and we know Rees is a tested quarterback and can get the job done when needed. Regardless, I don't want an amateur athlete getting long term health risks just for one football game. If he can practice late in the week then maybe get him some reps in the BYU game and if not then give him the whole week off and get ready for Oklahoma.

He will be completely and utterly exposed if in for a whole game. Did you all forget that 3 and out to start the Miami game? Bad throws. Stanford game, bad throw that somehow Jones catches. I have very little confidence in Rees being effective for a whole game. His throwing arm ain't gonna get any better folks...

i agree and right now i doubt we see golson play vs byu. ND will be just fine playing reese for byu, let golson rest and watch & learn from the sideline.

I think if Tommy starts we will be fine. He is making good decisions. Our running game is solid, I am sure our O-line is going to perform well. Ev or Tommy or Drew, the QB is going to be solid and the team is going to focused and driven.

I agree, I was all in for Rees to see if he maybe changed but the floaters to start miami cleared my head. Same old guy but he is great coming off the bench in a clutch situation. Because he isn't asked to beat teams with his arm, he usually will check out into a good play which usually doesn't make him make a tough throw. Tommy's arm is very weak compared to most divison 1 starters, thats why he has to throw the ball really early which can be very dangerous. Everett needs a game against BYU I don't care about their defense our o-line should be able to handle them because they haven't played a tough schedule, they're defensive stats are skewed. If golson plays he should have his biggest game of the year which will be great going into oklahoma.
