I'd like to hear some first-person observations of the mood of the crowd in the beginning, when things were dire, and the eruption at the end.

Crowd was good all day, but great in the second half. Very quiet as the first half ended, but overall pretty good. I know the music is a big issue for some, but my observation is that it does get some of the otherwise quiet attendees to get up and yell. I'm ambivalent. I want to win.

Notre Dame has some of the bitchiest fans in the world. When things weren't going well, we were hearing a lot of talk on how Kelly is a stubborn coach who doesn't know what he's doing. Also, we were lucky enough to watch the game with about 15,000 Offensive Coordinators who couldn't understand why we refused to run the ball with 9 white shirts in the box.

The crowd was awesomely loud at the end though, place erupted when they stopped him on those OT possessions inside the 5, especially the 4th down stop.

Such a fun game to be at.

Lots of people around my section were calling for Rees. At the end of the game, you forgot how wet you were. That was EASILY the loudest, most energized I have seen the stadium.

Old bastards need to quit bitching about the younger fans in the stands. I had some geriatric tell me to sit and be quiet once- I told his ass it would be more comfortable on his sofa at home.

So it would have been like you were on the DD chat yesterday

I was there. It was a great atmosphere. The crowd stood for the entire game, it was loud. There wasn't people asking for Rees, or complaining about Brian. There were comments about the officials missing holding, about the officials, screwing up the false starts, etc. No one complained about the music. Most people, at least around me, were definitely into the atmosphere. It was loud and exciting.

Traffic, though sucks getting out of ND. I had dinner at McKenna Hall after the game, for an hour, and still had to wait 30 minutes in traffic.

Rumor has it that ND1989 actually spent the afternoon and early evening in...

Heard people blaming Everett for false starts. Heard people calling for Tommy in the first quarter. Then high fiving when everett ran for big chunks..

Of course the idiot next to me couldn't understand why Stanford wanted to go on D first for the 1st overtime.

I hate sitting next to fans like this. I had to listen to illogical bull sh*t almost the entire game.

Other than that we had an awesome time on the gameday, finding a nice game worn jersey for 125 and the weather wasn't too bad since it was 50.

Well, if you say that being at the game with my 9 year old for her first ND game with her dad, then yes I guess it was the twilight zone. It was a great time....

I don't see why people have so many problems with fans that aren't as knowledgeable. Who cares if a fan is calling for more runs or questioning why Stanford chose defense in OT? To the untrained eye, we were making progress in the run and floundering in the passing game. Not everyone knows to count the number of people in the box. Part of the fun of being a fan is second-guessing, thinking that you know more than the coach, and just being plain passionate about your team and wanting to win. Instead of bitching about these people, why not just share some of your learned knowledge?

Sorry, but had to get that off my shoulders. I see complaining about this on a regular basis on this board pointed to both fans as well as posters.

In general, I feel that ND fans are some of the more knowledgeable in college football, but all of us are idiots compared to even a below-average college coach or coordinator.

No offense meant and hopefully none taken…

Exactly. Heck, I'm still cheering Pat Dillingham's touchdown against MSU...

Got yelled at to sit down non-stop within the first five minutes of the game by some older gentlemen, ignored them, and didn't hear from them the rest of the game. Crowd was pretty good, but got into a bit of a lull in the 3rd quarter when we stalled on some good drives.

Fourth Quarter was great, and overtime was deafening...loudest I've personally heard at a game.

I thought it was so fitting that as soon as the play "stood as called", it seemed like the sky parted and the rain came down harder than ever. Pretty epic, glad I could make it.

Kudos to those who sat through that rain. Could not have been fun. Been lucky in all the years we've gone, can remember just once (USC 1999) where we got rained on...

If you are calling me out sir, you are dead wrong. I have been to many ND games and I realize first hand that there is a wide variety of fans that attend games. I noticed the family next to me didn't know what number Danny Spond was, and I politely said I believe he is #13.

When I hear guys berate players belligerently, I get intrigued. sorry for alliteration not trying to write a poem.. When I hear the same people ask why Stanford picked defense in OT, makes me wonder why they are being such to 19-21 yr old kids. Clearly they do not know a lot about football.

I did not say anything to the guy because I don't want to be the know it all fan. And we all know that guy. (Maybe if I had Mayocks baseball analogy on the cuff, I might have said that and left it alone..)

Unless someone asks me whats up or a comment comes up in dialogue, I stay to myself. I was hugging 1 yr alumn at the end of the game lol. I don't have to sit with the most knowledgeable people on this board during a game to enjoy all that is Gameday in South Bend.

Same here Rock. This was my g/fs first game. We are going again next week and it looks like it could rain again. You bet we'll be prepared for it if it does.
