There were two tremendous developments on the offensive side of the ball during the Miami game. One was the emergence of Golson and his command of the offense, but the other was the breakout performance of George Atkinson 111.

When was the last time we saw a back look like that?? He rushed for 123 yards on only 10 carries. That is 12.3 yards per touch. This is the player that some of us have been waiting for. His high school tapes were sick. I like that word 'sick', it sure didn't mean anything good 30 years ago.

I loved Atkinson from the very beginning but have to give recognition to two other Domers that picked him as well, from the very beginning. That would be Hawaiiirish and BlackIrish. I'm sure there must be others, but I remember these guys when we first recruited George.

.......Navy?

What were his stats against Navy?? I don't remember a game of the magnitude I saw against Miami. I also thought Navy looked like a high school team.

9 for 99 and 2 TD's.... and yes they did.... he needs a good 6-10 touches in each game I think... every time he can break it for a long gainer

I like GAIII a lot, but when the hole isn't obvious or gaping he kind of cowers into the line of scrimmage at times.

Let Cierre take it up the gut, let George streeeeeetch em out!

Yeah this is true, but if every 3 or 4 touches he takes it 50 yards I'll take it. He is very far from an every down back but I'd still like to see him on the field more, maybe give him a few screens every game. That little flip out play where he scored and we had nikklas and eifert blocking has become a very effective play since kelly arrived. I remember when you compared him as a poor mans adrian peterson, I'd agree. Similar body type and running style very upright, he's just faster and lacks many thing ap does well. Will Atkinson ever be an every down back though?

Agreed. I said to friend if we could combine Riddick with GAIII, hello Heisman.

But Wood had the same problem as a young back. He figured it out and I trust GAIII will too...

His stride is a thing of beauty. Loooong stride. He made those Florida boys look like they were standing still. Very very excited to see if he can get the edge against Stanford.

GAIII is not a pound it back. Speed is his weapon. We need to use him like Holtz use to use Rocket and Watters. Wear down the defense by pounding Cierre and Theo then bring in GAIII in the 3rd and 4th qtrs when the defense is worn down. Fresh fast legs lead to good things...and long runs!!

That's assuming he could beat out my FrankenQB of Golson, Rees and Kiel.

GAIII has a unique set of skills. I think as we see Golson develop, Kelly gain trust in him, we are going to get to see the full complement of skills the offense has.

Saturday was a small glimpse. Hopefully we will see some more glimpses in the coming weeks.

As Knute used to say, "Inside em, Outside em." It really works.

Still waiting on another piece of the puzzle to emerge and that is Chris Brown. I really thought we would have connected on this before now. It's coming. It's inevitable.

Eifert will continue to demand the double team and DeVaris should have a good day. Hasn't he become a really dependable receiver. Can you imagine next year when Brown is up to about 185 and more polished and DeVaris is a household name?? Golson will be a super star and his back up will be Kiel. Malik Zaire will be reshirting and learning from Golson. Jeeeeeez!!!

TJ looked like he had a pretty bad ankle sprain, and, from experience, we know that injury is very tricky and potentially disabling. Brown might be in there more out of necessity in the coming weeks. I would love to see Brown too, but I hope it does not happen like that.

Bingo! That is exactly what makes him so valuable.

He definitely fits the Oregon offense mode. One of these times he disappears up the middle in a mass of bodies he will squirt through and go all the way.

i agree, right now he doesn't seem to be able to create his own hole the may wood can.

he's a much needed homerun threat, haven't had a rb like that since probably julius jones in 2003. as the season goes on i'd like to see what he could do on a reverse or a wheel route down the sideline.

Naw you will see Zaire coming in and sharing snaps and even taking over at the position why? because he is a gamer and a play maker you will see at spring ball he is smart athletic and understands the game and defenses and will be able to move the ball the way kelly likes it.

I promise you Zaire will not be in the mix at QB next season or the one after that, or the two after that.

I look forward to seeing him as a senior though.

OH Lordy, We have another BlackIrish. I am extremely high on Zaire, but Golson is becoming absolutely entrenched. What more could you ask then the kind of game you saw Saturday night?? High high percentage of completions, keeps plays alive with his feet, even adds to the rushing total and doesn't turn the ball over.

OH yeah, the wheel route to George. Bring it baby!!! That would be like taking candy from a baby. Can you imagine a linebacker trying to cover him out of the back field. I've been calling for that play.
